After speaking with surgeon and oncologist, they both agreed a double mastectomy is the way to go and i agree. Im young and the amount of monitoring i would have to go through is not desirable. The team i am working with is wonderful. So thankful for that. The surgeon said the lump is too close to my nipple so nipple sparing isnt an option anyway, thats a big bummer but like several of yall said, it wouldnt be the same anyway. Surgeon also discussed how the tissue doesnt always "take" so that sound horrible. They still dont know if my cancer is DCIS or not. The additional staining that was done still didnt rule it out. Oncologist said that will be determined after surgery as djmammo had told me. So hoping its all DCIS and i will be done with this after surgery. Chemo scares the crap out of me.

So glad you had a good meeting with your surgeon and oncologist. I had initially planned on nipple sparring as well up until my pre op when the BS decided my nipple had some changes she didn't like and my tumor was just behind my nipple too. I plan on getting a tattoo at some point. They have an artist in with my PS and insurance will cover it. When you have a surgery date I would look for the thread with others going through surgery the same month as you. It really helped to follow along with others and get their support.

motheroftwo, if --God forbid-- you shuld need chemo, I want to assure you that, while it is no picnic, it was not nearly as bad as I had feared. Mostly epic fatigue and that did not hit me hard till the last 2 chemos. Never threw up, never even nauseated. (I did use cannabis when I felt slightly queasy but that was rare). I just wanted to let you know that in case. Hopefully you will avoid it! I am glad you have a team and a plan and feel comfortable with both! Fast work!!

You sound very confident with your decision. That's good. Onward!
