Nipple Pain

I had 2 stereotactic biopsies, one right after the other on the same day, about 3 weeks ago, and in addition to massive bruising, my nipple has been erect since then. It hurts, obviously. Is it likely to be nerve damage? Will this eventually get better?

    Hi KatenotKathy,

I don't know if this helps but I discussed this with my RO on Monday and he explained that the mammary ducts running through the breast all converge on the nipple and so those "pissed off nerves" take a little while to settle down. I had surgery (lumpectomy - DCIS) 3 weeks ago tomorrow and while my nipple is still erect, it's not as sensitive as it was. I found that wearing tight fitting sports bras helped reduce the rubbing on the nipple that was causing me pain during the day - and night for that matter.

    Best of luck to you.

Thanks! Pretty sure those nerves will be pissed off a little longer, since this morning I had a surgical

excision of proximal tissue. Pathology results in a few days

Thanks! Initial biopsy results returned atypical cells, so this morning, actually, I had a surgical

excision of proximal tissue for examination. Pathology results in a few days.
