Have you experienced this?
hello all.
I know I’m probably worrying myself to death trying to find out some answers.
I first noticed puffiness under my left armpit in November. Didn’t hurt. Fast forward to mid January and it was mild. Then right before I started my period the pain was more and constant. Period has stopped and still painful although not as bad as when I was on it.
I had a mamo and 2 ultrasound. 1st ultrasound showed a small cyst that was not of any concern the radiologist said. The 2nd one under my arm. They found two benign lymph nodes and no mass and no abnormalities. The mamo was normal except I have dense breast tissue.
Pain is constant and I’ve been to 6 doctors in 2 1/2 weeks looking for answers. I’m told it’s common and don’t worry. I said I don’t think it’s common to have pain. Has anyone experienced this? I’m at my wits end. I don’t feel like they take it serious and dismiss me. Pain isn’t not normal. I read these sites that tell u if you experience pain to see a doctor and I do and I’m told it could be my bra.
The lymphnodes are causing pain and I can’t figure out what the next step is

I have not experienced this, but I would have thought that if, like me, you have dense breast tissue they should follow up with a ultrasound. Because I have dense breast tissue, they have always sent me for an ultrasound follow up after the mamo.

I did the ultrasound sound a small cyst was found and then 2 benign lymph nodes. The mamo and both ultrasounds were normal they said but my underarm and breast is hurting.
Is it possible to have breast cancer not be detected on both a mamo and ultrasound?

Laurenjeanine to answer your question, yes, it is possible for diagnostic mammography and ultrasound to miss a small cancer. It happened to me on my dense breasts. I was diagnosed with an MRI.
Cysts can definitely hurt tremendously, I had a few in my breasts in my 30s and early 40s. But I did not have the underarm pain and swelling you describe. There may be others on these boards that have. My painful cysts were drained and even though once the radiologist after draining said "I can tell the fluid indicates it is benign" I had them test it anyway.

Hello Laurenjeanine,
I have been experiencing pain in my left breast, armpit, chest, shoulder blade and shoulder since October of 2018. I have a small moveable lump in my left breast at the 3-4 o clock position. It is very painful. I went to my primary and she felt it is as well. She sent me to have a mammogram and ultrasound. Both came back normal with fibroglandular tissue showing up where we can feel the lump I also had benign axillary an intramammary lymph nodes show up. I went to my obgyn and he also felt the lump but is not concerned at all. He said the fibroglandular tissue can feel lumpy and cause pain but he referred me to a breast surgeon just to get another opinion. Please let me know what happens with you. Sometimes I feel like I've gotten all the confirmation I need to not worry about this and other times I feel like I have metastatic breast cancer and that is why I feel so much pain in other areas.

so did they say if the pain will last? Was there a treatment for the pain?
Did u go to the breast surgeon? This is so stressful:(
-
He did not say if the pain will last or not. He seems to think that the pain I have outside my breast is not related to the breast lump at all. My appointment with the surgeon is until March 15th. They don't feel it's an urgent matter since the mammogram and ultrasound don't show anything. My diagnostic mammogram was very long. they took so many views of the left breast and even used different tools and all it shows is tissue. My breast density is at category b so not extremely dense. I keep reviewing everything and telling myself something would have been seen on the mammogram since I felt it was very thorough but then I read so many stories here of women that had clear mammograms and ultrasounds and ended up having cancer. I am in panic mode all the time. I lost my brother to pancreatic cancer in 2017 and I live in constant fear that I have cancer also. I realize I need help for that but meanwhile this lump is real and it is really bothering me.
