Sudden inverted/retracted nipple... Hormone replacement

So 3 weeks ago my Husband noticed my left nipple looked completely different to it's normal. Previously I have had quite even looking breasts and nipples, also quite prominent.

I'm almost 40 and had a hysterectomy aged 38, I was left with 1 ovary to help ease menopause. I've not menstruated since but due to pelvic pain was given and injection to shut off my ovary then started combined hormone replacement about 6 months ago.

Currently my left nipple is almost flat when I'm stood or sat, when my arm is lifted, I lie down or I lean forward my nipple completely inverts/retracts! Not sure which is which as I've heard both called different things depending on the site. It dips more on one side too.

Since noticing the change my left breast had got lumpier than normal, I've always had fairly lumpy breasts but it's also grown (swelled?). My left used to be my smaller one now it's the bigger. I mean it feels bigger! I have some minor tenderness too.

I'm waiting to see my doctor and hoping I am taken seriously to be referred for further tests!

I've tried to look for benign conditions but as soon as inversion or retraction is mentioned they recommend urgent referral so now I'm out of my mind with worry!

Is it common for nipples to change prior to BC diagnosis? Is it common in benign conditions?

Hi Dreamcatcherr! We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're so sorry you find yourself here with this worry, we know how stressful it can be! There are certainly plenty of explanations for what you've described, but it's good that you're getting in to see your doctor and hopefully get it figured out. Please keep us posted!

Thank you for the welcome. I wish I wasn't here but here I am. Not had much sleep the last few nights! One minute I'm convincing myself it's nothing, then I'm crushed by worry as it's clearly not a normal occurrence. My must admit I do get quite anxious when my health isn't great, mainly due to always being diagnosed with something that's had a huge impact on my life each time. Trying to put it out of my mind when I go to work but easier said than done unfortunately.
