I’ve had a lump in my armpit for about 6 months. It’s not large, just pea sized. I had it biopsyed on Tuesday and it came back positive for breast cancer. Please tell me what you know, what I should do, etc. thank you in advance! C

Have you got a breast surgeon yet? Did the diagnosing radiologist refer you to one? That will be your next step. Good luck.

    Is this your first diagnosis?

I am VERY sorry to see this topic/title as I too had some swollen lymph nodes that were biopsied, and have been waiting weeks to find out if it was cancer, but just today found out it is benign. I have been bracing myself for similar results as yours and know how you feel. Many women have been in your shoes... you are in the right place here.

You should have an appointment soon with a doctor or surgeon to get more information. Likely they will schedule you for an MRI to find out more, and they will come up with a plan of treatment.

Hi, Texas girl, sorry you've had this news💖I first found my cancer in my armpit also. Felt like a jellybean. After the mammo, ultrasound and biopsy results, my next step was meeting my medical oncologist, she led my team, which included her, my breast surgeon, plastic surgeon and eventually, radiation oncologist. I was treated at a university teaching hospital which was great because everything was coordinated, all the tests, surgeries etc. Your next steps will probably be mri, ct scans, maybe pet scans, to gain all necessary info. This part is nerve wracking, cuz you don't know what to expect. Once you get your team together and a treatment plan in place, you'll feel more in control. Then you just go step by step and do what you gotta do. Let me just reassure you, you can do it! You have a challenging time ahead of you, but you will find a strength inside you, you may not have known you had! I had lots of treatment and I came out just fine, doing GREAT, and you will too!💖

Hi there, Texasgirl, so sorry you find yourself here! We know what a shock it can be. The first days and weeks are scary because so much is unknown, but once you have met with the breast specialist and oncologist and have a plan in place, you'll start to feel more in control! We're here to support you through this, you're not alone.

Texas girl, my lump was in my armpit, in the axillary lymph nodes, not considered metastatic! Stage 3 not stage 4. Treatable! I'm cancer free now 3 years, and many many stage 3 ladies reporting here more than 15 years cancer free. So don't think just because it's in the axillary nodes, it's metastatic 💖

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer in 2014. It was in my breast, lymph nodes, liver and spine. I've been in remission since September 26, 2014 and am doing well. All things are possible. The first step I was told was to get an Oncologist. An Oncologist is knowledgable on successful courses of actions. They can recommend your course of treatment. Mine didn't recommend surgery since it was so advanced and multiplying at a 60% rate. I had 4 months of chemo, a lumpectomy and 33 rounds of radiation. Still NED "No Evidence of Disease". I"m praying for you.

Hi Texas Girl! In your initial post you asked about what you could/should do. My best advice as you are being exposed to new words, people- (nurse guides, oncologists, Radiologists, targeted therapies, etc. etc.)is that you create a three ring notebook for yourself. Keep copies of EVERY lab result, scan result, etc. Buy a plastic sheet that has slots to put business cards of every new contact you make. I found some old plastic sleeves and put- notes from Doctor visits, handouts and other paperwork. Your notebook will be there through your journey and can be a big help when you're tired and stressed and need help remembering things/people & places. My cancer was initially diagnosed as a benign papilloma. I was told it still needed to come out. I woke up from my first surgery to the news that it was cancerous after all and they weren't able to get clean margins. Ha - I didn't know what a clean margin was. Two surgeries and many miles later, I still use my notebook as reference tool. This is a wonderful site to gain knowledge from and get support from . I'm sending a virtual hug. Good luck this week with your scans
