Hi!

Saw GYN Onco for pre Salpingo Ooph meeting. She mentioned that even post menopausal women often experience annoying side effects after ooph. She said most common were menopausal like hot flashes. I am 52, post menopausal and on AI for almost 1 year. I thought was was interesting. What have your experiences been post ooph? Trying to manage expectations.....

Thanks as always!

Personally I thought it was great because I stopped having “up and down" moods, but I have also never slept as well again. I was right on the cusp of menopause at 50 though. I was still trying to have a light spotty period a couple of times a year. I never did quite make it to a full year without some spotting

    Simone

I would say the surgery was profoundly life-changing in a challenging way in my experience. I felt very ill-prepped for side effects of the surgery combined with hitting me with Arimidex two weeks later. My surgeon told me to drink ice water, buy a fan and ankle weights for walks. 🤣 Totally ridiculous and useless advice

If I wasn’t Brca 2 I would never have done it in retrospect. The surgery itself is a piece of cake the after effects for me, have been terrible.

My Side effects include joint pain, hot flashes, insomnia, snapping in joints, dizziness, fatigue, headaches, and mood swings. Be ready to exercise daily and get a strength training program together. Mobility is a huge factor, and I was very in shape prior to surgery. Acupuncture definitely helped hot flashes!

I was peri-menopausal prior to my ooph. I think this makes a big difference because the drop in estrogen was just so severe. It may not be the same in your case.

Thank you, CBK! So sorry this stinks so much for you! What a long, strange trip it is!

Fortunately for me, between menopause and anastrozole, I already have most of those symptoms 😡. Will keep you posted after my ooph, April 30. Hopefully we can all wind up agreeing that we can just blame the anastrazole🤔.

    Ugh!

Also interested to hear from anyone who had ooph after using AI’s for at least a few months! Did your side effects change or get worse?

    Thanks!
