hi all ,

My bilat mastectomy is in a week and I’m nervous of getting sick before and want to know if anyone was sick before surgery.

My son just got over gastro the other day and I’ve disinfected my whole house. So far my husband and I are in the clear of that . We are pretty much avoiding public places for the most part except I have pre admission Thursday (which I’ll probably mask it up ) . I’m eating well, exercising , washing my hands , meditating ect but I’m so nervous it won’t happen . I think im nervous for a delay because I haven’t been on anti hormonals yet (it’s been 6 weeks since chemo was done ) and I’m afraid waiting is leaving me vulnerable to a fast recurrence . A bit silly I know .

Tell me have any of you been sick like a cold before surgery and it’s gone ahead

I have a similar problem. My grandson (who lives with us) has strep and my surgery is next week. I made an appointment with my GP to test for strep and make sure I don't have it. For my pre-OP appointment with the plastic surgeon yesterday, they mentioned calling them if I am sick. I told her about the strep and that I was making an appointment with my GP to test for it and the nurse thought that was a good idea.

I know the feeling. Seems like everyone around us is sick. It’s tough to have surgery in the winter. I just want this over with already. I’m nervous but I think if I keep doing what I’m doing I should be okay .

As for the strep , it’s usually fast incubating. If you were to have it right now, I’d say the meds would knock it out by the time surgery comes !
