I'm looking for recommendations for Cyberknife locations in the Northeast that handle spinal mets. I'd love to hear about your experience if you are willing to share. Thanks!

I had Cyberknife last month to a 2.4cmx2.4cm L4 spinal met at Stanford in Northern CA. My recent PE/CT scan plus my decreased pain indicates that the treatment was effective. The treatment was only one day, plus an MRI scan two days prior for planning. I'm sure there are also excellent options in the Northeast, but given the short duration of treatment, traveling for Cyberknife could work to.

    Best wishes! Theresa

I do not know if you can get proton radiation to treat your met, but I am currently being treated at ProCure in Somerset NJ and I LOVE them. It's one of the best medical experiences I have had.... nearly a spa-like experience... incredibly nice staff, no waiting, great facility, everyone is on top of it, etc.

Protons have advantages over photons of being easier to control. There is substantially less exposure to healthy tissue and no "exit" dose because they can be programmed to stop. I am just getting regular post-surgery rads..... but a lot of the people I've met here have other kinds of tumors that are not resectable. It might be worth an ask? They would probably have great referrals if they could not do it. They work with MSK and the other NYC hospitals.

I have Obamacare/ California and they took my insurance and limited my copay to my max out of pocket.

Jsniffs I see Dr. Lunsford at UPMC Presby for Gammaknife. UPMC Shadyside offers Cyberknife. These hospitals are both part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, located in Pittsburgh PA. I have been very, very pleased with my care at UPMC.

Thank you everyone for your replies! I was hoping that there might be more responses from people in the New England / New York area. UPMC might be doable. Good to know! For those who have had Cyberknife, it's great to hear that the treatment has been effective.
