Indeterminate Microcalcifications at 39

I had a mammogram and then follow-up mammogram which shows microcalcifications that are indeterminate. I am scheduled for a biopsy next week. I have been told that calcifications are common and that 80% of biopsies are benign, but are these statistics still true for someone that is 39? I keep telling myself not to worry, but's hard not to. My mom has had breast cancer (not diagnosed until 55) and has had 5 other primary cancers. I've also had a grandmother and an aunt with ovarian cancer. Needless to say, my family history is not great!

    Missa did you get a Birads score from your mammo? I know this is hard, but you are taking care of yourself, and if something is wrong you will get the right plan in place. As far as I know, the 80% benign still applies for your age. Please keep us posted. What day is your biospy?

    Also I’m wondering if your doctors recommended genetic counseling/testing for you. Any ovarian cancer in the family should be a red flag.

    Tresjoli2 - I did not get a Birads score, but I also didn't ask. I gathered that they were trying to provided as little info as possible to help avoid worry. I was honestly a little stunned when I was in the doctor's office. My biospy is on Wednesday.

    farmerlucy - they haven't recommended genetic counseling yet. I have done 23andme for other reasons and I do not have any variants for BRCA1 or 2, so that's good! I do have a great gyno who is very watchful of me. I am also in an ovarian cancer screening program at the local university.

    MM IN EXTENT MICROCALCIFICATIONS:
    NEGATIVE FOR ATYPICAL HYPERPLASIA, CARCINOMA IN SITU OR INVASIVE
    CARCINOMA.
    PROLIFERATIVE FIBROCYSTIC CHANGES WITH ASSOCIATED BENIGN
    MICROCALCIFICATIONS.
    DEEPER SECTIONS REVEALED NO ADDITIONAL FINDINGS.

    Very good! But you may still want to get genetic testing. They have many more genes they test for now. My mom got DCIS at age 50 and despite my grandmother having breast cancer and dying from it in her 70s, I thought it wouldn't effect me, at least not until much later. I was wrong and got it at 35. Neither my mom or I have BRCA 1 or 2 (or even any of the other variations I was able to test for. Calcifications are common but usually in older people. It's usually a problem when it appears as a cluster. Please monitor this!!!
