Localized stabbing pain

hi everyone! I’ve been experiencing on and off stabbing pains in the lower outer quadrant of my left breast for a few months now. I am 29 years old and currently tandem breastfeeding my 2 year old and my 9 month old—last week I had mastitis which resolved without the use of antibiotics and just yesterday the stabbing pains started up again after being MIA for about a month. The pain is not bad and if I’m busy I don’t even notice it, but it’s definitely there which has me worried. The pain does not get better or worse when I press on the area of concern. When I rummage around looking for a lump, the only thing I can feel is a very small squishy lump. It’s about half the size of a pea and it moves around. It’s been there since the start of the pain and hasn’t changed at all...I’m not even sure it’s not just normal breast tissue or a milk duct, but the fac that the stabbing sensations occur right where the little squishy lump is has me concerned. I have had a small fibroadenoma in the same breast for around 7 years which has always caused a hightened sense of anxiety. Anyone have similar pains? What was the root cause?

    Hi Alt, and welcome,

We're sorry you're here and worrying. We hope someone will be by soon with some insight, but we always suggest taking your breast concerns to your doctor, who can evaluate the situation.

I started to experience very similar pain a few months ago. The pain wasn’t severe but still alarming as it was a new pain. After several days the pain stopped and I forgot about it. Well a few weeks ago I noticed lumps in my breast and then noticed that same pain has come back. Since I’ve had a mammogram and ultrasound and now I’m waiting on biopsy. Don’t know what it is yet but do feel like the pain is related. I would recommend going to doctor just to be sure. Good luck and let us know how it goes
