Complete implant removal after reconstruction
I posted this in another forum... but hoping someone here can help. My implants are horribly uncomfortable... and in light of the recent Lymphoma announcement, I’m seriously considering getting them removed and being completely flat. Anyone had this done? What are your experiences having NO implants at all? pros/Cons? Thanks all

In April I had a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. In May I developed a staff infection and they took everything out so now I am flat. The PS wanted to do a latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction. After a lot of thought I decided not to do it. I was afraid of the pain, after having been through a lot of it. Another factor in my decision is you will not have feeling in your breasts anyhow so it's purely cosmetic. It took me a little while to get used to how I look now but I have a wonderful boyfriend that really helped me with it. I rarely think about it and am not self conscious at all. So I would say go for it! Best of luck to you!!

I had my implants removed. They make great prodthetic inserts for speciaL bras. Nobody can tell. The one person who sees me without my shirt on..doesn't mind. Plus I tend to wear a bra or cute nighty for sex. To give the illusion of Normal.
It's not bad at all.

I am so happy to see this posted! I got implants about 12 years ago....purely cosmetic...just wanted both boobs looking in the same direction. For some reason gravity had gotten the best of one and not the other, I LOVED the results! Fast forward to this past November and getting diagnosed, going through lumpectomy and finishing radiation TOMORROW (yay me!), I think I'm ready to have these implants removed. Would have done it at the the same time as lumpectomy, but I was told the skin would go from a grape to a raisin after radiation if I had nothing in place. SO....rather than go to TE, I decided to keep what I had and save myself additional surgeries and have them removed when this was all over. Maybe a lift with the removal?? I don't know yet....but agree with the lymphoma scare. I'm ready to have them out.

thanks everyone for your feedback..... I’ve experienced a serious nerve bundle under my right implant that has recently flared up again! Feels like a wasp is stinging me constantly.... so I’m making an appointment with my breast surgeon to explore my options. I think I’ll be happier with them OUT...

michelept, I'm sorry you're in so much pain and I hope you find something that helps you feel a lot better and your breast surgeon is helpful.

What does it look like when you go from a c cup foob to flat? I'm considering doing the same thing. I've had implants for about 9 months and I feel like they are not me.

Please let me know your responses. I am seriously considering having implants taken out. Results are not good and find myself buying padded tank tops, breast fillers and altering clothes anyway. I am 9 years after last surgery (including the original BMX 9 in total). Anybody else out there 50ish around 230lbs 5'6" and rocking the prosthetics?????? ANY input appreciated

I had similar pain, with a strange deep itch. I had an intercostal nerve block done to chest area ( lumbar 3-7)with front top of breast area trigger point therapy. It helps.

I had similar pain, first with the expanders and then with the actual implants without the water fills.. I had them removed. I am over 50 and chose no reconstruction. I am perfectly happy being flat except for the scars that itch once in awhile Comfort in your own body is what is most important. I did not like anything that had to do with implants. Wish you the best with your decision
