The waiting game?
I'm 44 and will turn 45 next month. I've recently been diagnosed with IDC (estrogen/progesterone positive/HER-2 negative) in two places (one area is in situ) in the right breast. I am one of those people that is dealing well and calmly with it all...I'm overall a pretty laid back person. I have a medical background although with animals over humans. I just received my official diagnosis on 1/28. I'm getting a genetic profile done, lots of other cancers in my family as well. I have also chosen to have bilateral mastectomy. My surgeon ordered a MRI and I just got that done today with her calling with results this evening. There was an area in the left breast that was contrast enhancing. Now they want to biopsy the left breast before moving forward with surgery. I get why, to make sure sentinel lymph node biopsy is not needed on the left as well. Overall just feeling frustrated with the waiting game. Was really hoping to have a surgery date scheduled this week, now have to wait for another biopsy. I've been lurking around for a while now and just figured I'd introduce myself. Feeling the frustration!

Hi Whaletic-
Welcome...not the place that you want to be welcomed to...but welcome. You will learn so much here.
The same thing happened to me...MRI showed a surprise in my “good” breast and I had to have another biopsy. It only added about a week on to my timeline though. My surgery was scheduled for 8 days after the extra biopsy.
One you get your surgery date you will probably feel relief. I did! Then, I started to freak out. It is a very, very tough time that you are in. I am just on the other side of it and I’m here to tell you that you can do this!
We are all here for you. Hope you get that date very soon!

Thank you, Wigging2000. Yeah this next biopsy has definitely thrown me a curve ball! I'm just so ready to start moving on with the healing process. I've chosen to not have reconstruction and I see a lot of responses on BMX with and without. It's all been very helpful to read what others are going thru. I guess we all live in a similar boat with this, as much as we may not like that boat, it's definitely a place to find some common ground and for that I've been thankful to have found all of you!

Well I have some things scheduled today....pretty much everything BUT surgery. I'm so looking forward to the day surgery is scheduled. I too think I will feel some relief. My next biopsy is scheduled for next Thurs. I have an appointment scheduled at the intimate apparel shop to get a post op camisole and talk about prosthetics. I also went ahead and scheduled an oncology appointment. I wasn't supposed to see them until after surgery but at least I'll get some answers as to what I could be looking at after. Still, I'll feel some relief when surgery is scheduled.
