Possible Breast Hematoma

Hi,

I had an excisional biopsy done on Thursday 1/31 to remove a 6 mm piece of tissue that appeared on ultrasound to be a fibroadenomous hyperplasia on the side of my right breast, with irregular borders. I now have some swelling in the area adjacent to my incision, and the spot is also becoming discolored and sore. I'm getting a concerned about the possibility of a hematoma, based on what I'm reading online. Has anyone developed similar symptoms and/or been diagnosed with a hematoma? Any feedback or input would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

I had a lumpectomy in August, and developed both a hematoma and a seroma. My tumor was twice as big as your hyperplasia. The hematoma was the size of my thumbnail. It was tender and looked like a regular bruise at first. As it dissolved, it went from red to purple to green to yellow, and the discoloration spread. Are you running a fever? If so, and if the discoloration is just reddish around the incision, I wonder if you could be developing an infection? Otherwise, it sounds like my hematoma. I’m not a doctor, so do check in with your surgeon if you’re concerned. Wishing you continued healing!

    Hi Greenharbor,

Thank you for the feedback! It turns out to have been a seroma. It was quite large and my surgeon therefore had it drained the same day. I'm hoping it doesn't come back, but at least it turned out to be nothing too serious. And also, my test results for the excisional biopsy came back negative for cancer! Best of luck with your journey, I wish you health and happiness!

Glad to hear the biopsy was benign, and that it turned out to be a seroma. Wishing you all the best!!
