I had a unilateral mastectomy 10 years ago, I now have a 43 yo daughter who had 3 different types of cancer in the same breast and 40 year old who is on hightened surveillance because we all have a PALB2 VUS. I am considering a prophylactic removal of the other breast because of strong family history and the PALB2 finding. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

    Hi Tootie,

Welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're so very sorry for the many reasons that bring you here, to hear of your diagnosis and positive genetic testing results, as well as your daughters' diagnosis and genetic results. We can certainly see your concerns! There are many members here who have chosen a prophylactic mastectomy due to genetic testing results and personal history of breast cancer -- we're sure others will be weighing in shortly.

In the meantime, you may find it helpful to check out these pages from the main Breastcancer.org site:

We hope this helps and we hope to hear more from you soon! We're all here for you!
