Can Someone Answer a Question about Oncotype DX Test?

My score was 21 and my 9 year recurrence percentage was figured to be 7%. Is it true that those 2 numbers are different for everyone? Like someone else could receive a score of 21 and a recurrence percentage of say, 13%? Wondering how they get that recurrence percentage number. Thanks and hugs, Karen

    Mine had a couple different recurrence rates listed...there was a 10 year rate, 5 year rate with Tamoxifen alone, and 5 year rate with Tamoxifen with chemo. Mine was a few years ago though, so the reporting may have changed. My guess is that it is individualized, but that is just a semi-educated guess.


    Ultimately, you have to weigh the risks and benefits of chemo. I think it is helpful to put it on paper...pros and cons of doing chemo, and pros and cons of each. You have to weigh your age, pre-existing conditions, etc into it, so what's the best decision for one person, might not be the best decision for someone else. Make the best decision for YOU, nad then know it was an educated one, and never let someone second guess you.

    I would make sure you have discussed this with your doctor as at least when I received my Oncotype score in 2015 I noticed that everyone that had the same score as me had similar percentages. My score was 12 with 8% chance of recurrence with Tamoxifen. It seems unusual for a score of 21 to have a lesser recurrence score, unless scoring has changed in the last 4 years.

    Peregrinelady, maybe the scoring has changed in the last 4 years? I don't know. I wasn't sure if anyone else would like to chime in on this topic. I thought 7% was low too, for a score of 21, but I'll take it! I may call GenomicHealth later and ask them to verify.

    I agree. My score was 11 with 8% chance of recurrence. That doesn’t make sense a higher score would have a lower percentage. They must have changed the numbers drastically because 21 is an intermediate score. It’s hard to believe it would be that low.

    Maybe it has to do with the % of ER and PR? I'm not sure. Wondering if there is anyone else out there with a similar score and relatively low percentage?

    At the bottom of your score boxes notice the wording “TAILORx” which refers to the trial of the same name that refined OncotypeDx scoring and changed the recommendations and scoring interpretation. Looking at anyone else’s RS from before the application of the trial data to OncotypeDx RS scoring is not comparable due to these changes. This trial sought to refine the dreaded intermediate score and divide RS into more of a high/low situation. Here is a link:

    my numbers were similar to yours. Score 20 with 6% chance of recurrence at 9yrs

    I just checked out the new Oncotype site. So much better and hopeful then when I was diagnosed in 2015. The TailorX study sure was a game changer!

    hi

    I just had my oncotype done in October and I got a 12, which said it would be an 8% recurrence risk. Am I missing something? Plus my report looked nothing like yours.


    Does anyone know if we can take our scores and apply them to the new numbers? I must have been at the very end of the old

    I'm so confused. My MO emailed me back and said the 7% listed above applied to "all patients with that score", yet when I go on the Genomic Health Oncotype website, there is a section that explains how to interpret the report, section by section. When I clicked on the middle percentage risk number, it says "this is your patient's individualized risk profile". ????
