Snack-a-holic
Does anyone have some interesting snacks that are low-cal that don't involve cardboard microwave oven popcorn or the other usual suspects (rice cakes, etc.)????

It is good to mix a protein and a carb together, helps give you that "full" feeling and digests more slowly, an apple and a little bit of peanut butter or low fat cheese, hummus (I like the vegetable flavor) and a few healthy crackers - low fat triscuits are one of the best that taste good, baked tortilla chips and salsa, a few (6) almonds. Drink a full bottle of water with every snack and it will fill you up! deb - i probably have more ideas....i work on it.

cycleirl- the protien and carb together is the best, The protiens help the carbs metabolize. Fats really slow them down, so skip the high fat versions. Low fat cheeses/meats (turkey)along with low low-mod carbs are ideal. I am diabetic and know this is a healthy way of snacking, of only I could stick to it.

vanilla yogurt with some frozen berries that I defrost in the microwave for a few minutes. It satisfies me when I'm wanting something sweet. Even my 6 yr old daughter loves it for a snack.

GREAT SWEET SNACK..I MIX TRADER JOE'S NON--FAT VANILLA YOGURT WITH ONE CUP OF CRUSHED PINAPPLE (IN NATURAL JUICE) AND PUT SOME CHOPPED WALNUTS OR OTHER NUTS ON TOP. YUM-O

One of my favorites is 1 container of Yoplait no fat vanilla yogurt, 1 cup Nesquick no fat chocolate milk, 1 cup ice. Toss it in a blender until smooth. Makes a good amount; only 260 calories; fills you up. Plus it is the perfect "recovery" drink after a hard workout since it has a 4:1 carb to protein ratio.
