Muscle tightness sensation 10 years after radiation?

After being diagnosed in September 2008, I underwent a BM, chemo, radiation and multiple reconstruction surgeries (the last being a DIEP Flap). I completed my radiation in June 2009. Fortunately, it has been a few years since I experienced any sensation of muscle tightening.

Today, I am having muscle tightness and tingling sensations on the involved side. I am curious if anyone else has had these sensations return years after radiation. I know one of my doctors had said, "Radiation is the gift that keeps on giving", but I am surprised that it stopped and started again. I guess, I am also wondering if I should be concerned about it.

Thanks.

Mine has never stopped in the 7 years since a UMX and Radiation. I have muscle tightening, soreness and phantom pain and itching where my breast used to be. My sister who is 4 years out had DIEP (and radiation) also has continuing muscle tightening and sensations such as phantom pain and itching where her breasts used to be.

But it seems unusual to stop totally and restart again. I would check that out with your physician to be safe!

You might want to get checked for truncal lymphedema, Updt82. It's very common after DIEP flap, and for me it manifests as a tightening muscle sensation, mostly on my right breast and all along my abdomen. I joke that I have 6 pack abs! I never had radiation, so I know that can't be what causes my muscle tightening.

Good luck. I hope you figure out what's going on.

Just noticed that you also said a tingling sensation. That's one on the telltale signs of lymphedema. And lymphedema can, and does, show up years later.
