Hello,

Had my lumpectomy to remove 2 centimeter mass yesterday with two lymph nodes removed as well, I have a trip booked for my best friends baby shower and didn't think to ask anyone if flying would be a problem? my flight is tomorrow and its a one hour and half direct flight so not to long. Will I cause any harm to myself? Ill be sure to get up and move about! Anyone else travel by air after lumpectomy, what was your experience.

Thanks!

I would call or email your surgeon. They all seem to have different opinions. Originally, I was supposed to have lumpectomy, not mastectomy. I asked my surgeon the same question and he said flying was ok after 48 hours, making sure to keep getting up and walking. But, your surgeon may have a different opinion, so please ask your surgeon directly! And, the nurse navigator gave the standard answer of no flying for two weeks until you see the surgeon for follow up. That is why I emailed surgeon directly:-). I hope you get the all clear and enjoy the shower!

Do you have a drain? I wouldn't have wanted to travel with one of those!

No drains thank god, I heard about those. Also have very little pain, only needed extra strength Tylenol so far. Thanks to all the scary opioid addiction commercials I was to afraid to even fill my prescription of OxyContin lol!

This may be too late, but you will likely be fine. Enjoy your trip.

Thsnks! I ended up calling my surgeon this evening and she said it’s fine to fly, and she want on to tell me that patients fly in for surgery and they put them on planes back home after so I felt reassured. Just was told not to lift my luggage etc.

yes, you will be fine. I had a lumpectomy in Texas and flew home the next day. I had 11 lymph nodes removed and my port placed at the same time. I had to travel with a drain. Not fun, but I did it. Have a great time.
