Elevated alkaline phosphatase?
I have an appointment next week about a couple of lumps in my reconstructed breast (I've posted about that elsewhere). I also have a painful spot on my sternum, but there's no lump. It's a very small spot and has just got a deep internal itch and is painful.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a consistently elevating alkaline phosphatase (ALP) after treatment?
My other liver enzymes are totally normal. My ALP was totally normal at diagnosis and ALL through treatment. It was never elevated, not one time, the whole time I was on Taxol, AC, radiation w/ cisplatin.
I started Xeloda in April 2018 and ALP was normal. It has steadily risen since around July and though it's only mildly elevated (right now it's 171 - normal range is 46-136), it has risen more every single time I get it tested.
I had a bone scan in September that was normal. Just curious, with these new lumps - one exactly below my original tumor and a few tiny ones in my lower armpit, swelling over my rib just beside the cancer breast, a painful spot on my sternum and this consistently rising ALP.

I think Xeloda can cause elevated ALP, but double check with your MO.

My MO didn’t think Xeloda causes it but that’s just because it doesn’t specifically say so in the package insert.
My ALP has been steadily rising and I’ve been off Xeloda for 6 months.

My sister's ALP raised to some astronomical number during chemo. I started researching and ordered an organic Milk Thistle for her off of Amazon. Within TWO WEEKS her numbers were back to normal.
If milk thistle doesn't interfere with Xeloda, it is worth a try! I've heard from a friend on Xeloda that it can definitely affect the liver.

Thanks, I’ll ask my MO about milk thistle. I haven’t taken Xeloda for about 6 months. I’m not on any chemo or any other medsanymore but my ALP keeps climbing.

I had very elevated ALP about a year after chemo. US showed gall bladder sludge. It all went away by itself within 6 months
On a second note- and I know, it's a dog not a human - my whippet was diagnosed with liver cancer in October 2017 and given 2 months tops to live. I switched him on a low fat, low protein, low carb diet (he eats only grilled skinless boneless chicken breast, boiled sweet potatoes, fat free cottage cheese and bananas) with milk thistle extract and CBD oil and he's still alive and happy. I'm not saying you should eat exactly that, but something also light and add some CBD oil too?
