Hello!

I am 19 years old and recently discovered an oval lump underneath my breast and clear nipple discharge. I went to the OBGYN and she told me that she found “multiple masses” and “bilateral discharge” and today I did blood work to check my prolactin levels, and tomorrow morning I go for an ultra sound. I have had family a with breast cancer in both sides of my family, and got my period before 12, which i’ve received read is a risk factor. I would love to hear your opinions.

I would wait for results before asking for lay opinions. I know it's hard to wait, but why scare yourself by listening to a list of things that might be? It could be totally benign. Here's hoping it is! Hugs 😊 Sara

crw99, welcome to BC.org! We understand you're worried, but as Sara said, there are many other benign masses that can be found in young women. Here is an article from our main site that can help ease your mind while you wait: What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas

Let us know how it goes!

Definitely agree don’t panic yet. All those so called risk factors can be misleading. I know ladies who didn’t fit the mold and still got BC. I have a family history too - my mother. My sister and I both got BC but my Oncologist said 70% of BC cases are not genetically driven.

Keep the faith and keep us posted.

Breast cancer at 19 is not entirely impossible but exceptionally rare. On the other hand, benign lumps, usually fibroadenomas or cysts, are very common in teens and young women.
