Ultrasound guided biopsy question

Hi all,

I have an ultrasound guided biopsy scheduled on Wednesday. I was wondering how many of those that have been through it, went back to work afterwards. I have a computer job so it isn't strenuous at all. Since I had an ultrasound that was birad category 5, I figured I am going to need to conserve my sick time for what ever comes next.

FLFishing49- I went back to work a day after I think, but with lifting restrictions. I have a pretty physical job and I did ok. I would think you would feel fine to go back to work. I would suggest having an ice pack you could put in your bra, it really does help!

I understand how scary a BIRADS 5 is. The testing and waiting is sooo hard. If it does come back as cancer know that you will get down to the business ofkicking it's a**. This community is an amazing place to find information and support. Let us know how it goes. We are here for you!

Physically I would think you would be fine with a non strenuous job.

Emotionally it may be harder than you think to go back to work the same day...but it would provide for distractions! I’ve taken Xanax for each of my biopsies so had to take the day off for all of them.

The whole process is stressful. Be kind to yourself whenever you can. Hugs to you! I will hope for benign results for you. And like Dani said, if you do get the news that it is cancer you will kick it right back to where it came from!!

I could have gone back to work, but was glad I didn’t have to. I stopped and bought groceries on the way home..

Thank you all for your replies. I will play it by ear but will probably go back. I would rather have something else to think about. Everyone says the waiting is brutal so I need a way to pass the time. Supposedly it will be 4 to 5 business days to get the results.

Dani444, thanks for the reminder about ice. I'll take a pack into work with me.

Fingers crossed that all will be well but if not, I feel better knowing I can come here for support.

Wishing you luck today! I had an ultrasound guided biopsy yesterday and went to work afterward (also a desk job).
They advised no heavy lifting and to take it easy for 24 hours. I have had very minimal discomfort and haven't even felt the need to use ice or take any meds for it but maybe mine is just in a "good" spot?

Sending support and positive thoughts your way!

Thank you Dani444 for thinking of me. I just got back. It wasn't too bad. I had read all of the posts on here that had to deal with the biopsy so I was ready. For the most part it was sort of painless but they told me that because the lump had vessels, it would sting even with the lidocane and I think they knicked a muscle so that got my attention. Glad it is done and over with. Now I have to wait until next week to find out the results. I have told myself that I am not going to think about it. Lots of stupid Netflix for me this weekend.

    Hi MNTiif,

I do feel like I have been kicked in the chest but I am back to work. Thank goodness for desk jobs. Mine was done deep on the inside left side so I guess that isn't a "good spot".

Hope your results are good ones!!

My biopsies all went pretty smooth and I went back to work right after. Bring ice packs! The ice packs don’t feel like they help a ton, but they really do make a difference in the days after. I’ve had more biopsies (different kinds as well) and can tell you ice packs really help. I’ve tried it both ways and always regretted no ice packs. And Tylenol just in case you are a bit sore. Good luck! It’s a pretty easy procedure just relax and know that the doctors know their stuff.

    Hi Parrynd1,

Just got back about a 1/2 hour ago. I had a great doctor and technician. They talked the whole entire time and we were laughing and joking. It really put me at ease. They send me off with an ice pack. Think I'm going to be using it until bed time.

Bit of a late post, but I went straight into a meeting after biopsy with an ice pack in my bra. My only worry was having the ice pack fall out! Hope you held onto yours okay!

That's hilarious Brinkofeternity. I thought about that and actually went out and bought a new bra that covers that area really well. Managed to keep it in all day.

    Hi All,

Just got the results of my biopsy. Intraductal Pappiloma, not cancer. I still will have to have an excisional biopsy but I am a lot less nervous about it. I want to thank all of the great people on this forum. When I got that birad 5 on the ultrasound, I thought sure it was going to be BC. I read everything I could on many of the boards and I found great comfort knowing that there were people out there willing to help others go through their journey. You are all awesome!!
