MRI shows 6 cm involvement
My path report said DCIS multifocal comedo in 1/15/19. Mammo and ultrasound originally speculated 3 cm on 12/18/18. MRI results 1/22/19 said 6 cm area of involvement. What?!?!

I had something similar happen. The main tumor was 3.8 cm per mammo but the surgeon referred to "5cm" in our pre-op meeting that i had not heard before... It was her measurement of the largest dimension of the entire area, including the main tumor and a couple of smaller satellite bumps coming off it. I am guessing something similar is causing the discrepancy?

mine was 1.3 cm on ultrasound -- on the MRI it was 2.5 cm with 7cm of DCIS coming from it in a line. So I gave up on a lumpectomy.

The guesstimate is dependent on the scanning method and the contrast used. Several months ago, my wife had CT and MRI scan... the CT report says 4mm midline shift and MRI says 8.5mm midline shift.
Also, different contrast will highlight different matters. Here're some links below that may help you understand why the readings would differ.

I confirmed with doctor. The mass is 4.6cm x 5.7cm x 3.8cm between 2-4 ooclock. Yes, that is cm.

still ok if DCIS though?
Really great if caught so early with large area.

I can understand how scary that is. Aftery mastectomy I discovered my tumor was 8cm. How is that possible?!
This time is scary and frustrating, but soon there will be a plan in place. Wishing you the best. Let me how I can help

I think that DCIS can cover quite a large area. I remember that the tumours in my left breast that I was sent to for examining did not show on mammo but the right breast showed profuse DCIS. and high grade too. I had no clueabout anything back then...when they mentioned calcium deposits I thought maybe I had drunk too much milk!! Anyway they did a stereotactic biopsy of that right breast and found some cancer had spilled out from the cells...so I had lymph node removal on both sides.
I think if it is only that breast they might radiate it too so it doesn't turn into IDC.
Let us know how it is going. We are thinking of you.
