Mom’s bone pain

Options

I have a question. My mom is almost 8 years out of a stage 2, grade 3 cancer dx. Er+ so she's been on Armidex this whole time and has dealt with a ton of joint pain. Two months ago, she had her labs done and her oncologist commented on how great they were...they were the best they've been. Two weeks ago, she started getting low back pain. It's constant & just feels like a "dull ache". I talked Her into calling her oncologist and she's has a PET scan scheduled for next week. I'm praying it's nothing serious but I'm so glad her dr is being proactive. Are the recent great Labs meaningless???

Sometimes bone lesions will reveal themselves via elevated calcium levels but not always.

When the spine is affected, pain from pressure on nerves can send a person to the doctor. So, it's good that your mom's doctor is checking things out. In my case, a vertebrae collapsed, eaten away by the cancer...

Keep in mind that lots of folks have chronic back problems especially as they grow older. MRI is another imaging modality which can be used to investigate herniated disc situations, stenosis, etc. Perhaps she has something like that going on - no fun but way better than metastatic disease!

yes, you’re right and I’m trying to keep that all in mind! She’s in her 60’s so it’s very possible it’s just part of her getting older. Praying that’s the case. Thank you for your input!

I agree with what others have said. Labs most often do not show metastasis, but other causes of back pain are more common than cancer. I am glad that the doc is taking her concerns seriously.
