Hi

I'm currently 18 years old and my grandma has had a long history with breast cancer, fortunately with her she now a strong survivor! I'm not sure if this is the right place for me to talk about this but I dont know who or how to communicate my concerns to. I have been experiencing some symptoms which I'm not sure would require medical medical attention no, and quite frankly I wouldn't know how to seek help. I have noticed that there are sometimes lumps on the areola as well as skin dimpling over there, but what really concerned me was how one of my nipples tend to invert sometimes. Anyways I know that I may be younger than the average person to be diagnosed which is why I'm even more scared and I know that this forum is not to be diagnosing others but I'm not sure what to do and would love for others who have possibly been in this position to share some advice. Thanks!

If you are concerned you should go to your doctor and discuss it with the doctor so that you can learn what is and isn’t normal for youu

    Nida_123,

You can go to either a primary care physician or a gynecologist. I'd probably recommend a gynecologist and they might be better able to understand and explain normal changes in breast, but really a good PCP ought to also be able to do it, and to order appropriate next steps if necessary.

I'll say that the longer I live in a woman's body, the more I'm surprised by the changes and variability that no one ever warned me about. I thought you grew up and had a status quo and that was pretty much it, but no.

Anyway at your age especially, a lot of breast changes and lumps are completely developmentally normal! Still, it is never too young to build up a good relationship with a gynecologist and understanding of your health. Is health insurance/costs an issue for you? Planned Parenthood should definitely be able to help you on this.

    Good luck!
