hi, I am new here and was dxd with ILC stage 2 in December. it is right behind my nipple and 38mm x 28mm. I have scheduled a lumpectomy but then met with 2 plastic surgeons who said they think it will cave in and look bad, and also thinking radation will shrink it even more. Surgeon is planning to use biozorb catheter which both ps do not use or think will help. im now rethinking the surgery and worried that its too big to remove. I am a 38B. Anyone have a lumpectomy with a tumor as big?

(p.s the 2 onco surgeons i met with both felt i could do lumpectomy.)

I had a pretty big chunk taken out in 2016 (8 cm x 6 cm x 3.3 cm) but it was more on the side of my breast. Yes it looks like a shark bite but I really don't think about it any more.

    Dear mjane,

I would go with a lumpectomy if at all possible as it's far less invasive surgery, and then you're done with surgery. I remember telling my surgeon that you can always remove more later, but can't go the other way.

I didn't get perfect results following a lumpectomy and radiation, but that is just fine. Remember that another option would be to wear a bit more bra padding on that side. You can't tell when I do this. Just lightly shaped cups.

Did anyone mention neo-adjuvant chemo to you. That might be another route as often it's done to shrink the size of the tumor to make a lumpectomy easier.

Even with a bit of unevenness, I still go with La Perla bras and think I look just fine in that area. So did a couple of guys whom I have dated since. I am going with their view of the matter Happy Good luck. - Claire
