Hello, I am in my 40s with dense breasts and family history, and as such make sure to have a diagnostic 3D mammogram with 3D ABUS ultrasound of both breasts annually for several years now (after getting used to call backs the first few years when having only regular mammograms - something that was "probably benign" was frequently seen). I received the results a couple weeks after my annual testing last fall. However, I took the time to request and carefully read the report that stated I have a complicated cyst, but no prior studies to compare to. This is incorrect as I have at least 4 years of prior studies to compare to. I immediately emailed the head of radiology and the breast center and she said she would review everything again (same oversight happened at this center with same doctor 2 years prior). I sent several friendly emails and left voicemails with doctor, but only got a "will get to it soon" response. I then resorted to phone calls and emails with the assistant at the center. I keep getting told they will have a review wrapped up tomorrow for me, but this has been going on for nearly 3 months. Any advice on what I need to do? I called Billing and said I cannot pay the co-pay I was billed long after the visit until I get my results. I realize that I am lucky that everything seemed ok with last year's mammogram and ultrasound, but feel uneasy the complicated cyst (and overall imaging) was not compared with past years' studies all done at this same center. Any advice appreciated as well as thoughts on complicated cysts and feeling confident with results of 3D mammograms/ultrasounds alone for complicated cysts in dense breasts. Thank you very much!

You own your medical records and film. Your health insurance undoubtedly has other in-network doctors that are trained to prepare this report. Get in the car, go to the facility and fill out the form requesting all your medical records and film on a CD rom. Get all your films and reports. Make an appointment at another cancer group, while you're still waiting on this one even. Check with your own insurance company before you do this, to make sure you do it the right way. Many insurance companies cover second opinions as a matter of right.

thanks for your reply. yes, i got my mammogram results burned to a cd and all reports already, but this facility keeps the ABUS ultrasound records in a separate location and told me they cannot give copies of those (i think they said the file size was too big). i will try the second opinion after checking with my health insurance company.
