Switching plastic surgeons mid reconstruction?

I had right side mastectomy on Aug 6th. I started the recon with the aero form tissue expander. I had a bad skin break and really felt like my ps blew me off about the severity of the wound. I finally called my regular NP for wound care and she helped me get it healed. During the exchange surgery, he put the implant in in the fold and repaired the area where the wound was. It looked ok but was more painful and swollen than expected. I had a seroma and had it drained. Then really started having spasms. I asked for more muscle relaxers and he said I shouldn’t need them “at this stage of the game!”” I again went to NP and she gave me an rx for flexeril. Really helped. Then 2 weeks ago developed an infection and then the nightmare of implant extrusion. I had emergency surgery to remove implant. I’ve lost confidence and trust in him, and I don’t feel heard. I’m pleased with the left side reduction. I just feel like I want to get a second opinion on what is next, the repair looks like a Pukery stitched up mess. Has anyone switched ps? Oh as anyone experienced having the implant removed and wha they happened next? I’m really discouraged and need help!

I don’t have any great advice, but am sorry for what has happened to you. I really hope that you can get a second opinion. You deserve to have confidence and trust in your surgeon, and to be heard.

I can relate, as my story is quite a bit like yours. After infection and extrusion my skin is shot, and I am deformed. PS said he would do DIEP surgery after I healed. No thanks! I researched other Drs and found a great PS who is doing my DIEP late February.

The hell of it is, so many PSs will not even see you if you're still being treated by your current Dr. Having had the implant removed, hopefully you won't run into this.

Feel free to PM if I can help with any questions.

oh yah, plasric surgeons don't like it when you had someone else. I ask my mother's plastic surgeon if he could take a bump on scar off since it is very difficult drive to my DIEP surgeon. They must have some professional "club" because he didn't want to fix it. He wanted me to go back but finally relented.

Plastic surgeons can vary significantly in skill level and technique so if you are not happy with yours, most definately find one you are happy with.
