What does ok mean? I've been careful since diagnosis as well but I enjoy a drink. I would definitely be having a large glass of red every day and then nothing for a month or so. Someone more scientific may come by to give you better advice! Whatever you decide, enjoy yourself. X

Yes, I too enjoy some wines, gin, vodka. I am careful as I'm currently on pain meds. I hope you do enjoy your vacation!

There are four possible outcomes here.

    1) you go on vacation and drink. you never have a recurrence. everything is great.

    2) you go on vacation and don't drink. you never have a recurrence. everything is still pretty good, but you could really use a drink.

    3) you go on vacation and drink. you later have a recurrence. you wonder if you could have prevented it by not drinking on vacation. You will never know the answer to this question, but you may kick yourself for drinking anyway.

    4) you go on vacation and don't drink. you later have a recurrence. you are kicking yourself for not enjoying the good times while you had them. Or maybe you are at peace because you feel like you did everything you could to avoid recurrence but there was no avoiding it.

How would you feel in each of the scenarios? In which do you have the least regret?

I was one of those super healthy people who only ate certain things and quit alcohol but I still got cancer. So it's not like that strategy is 100% effective. I worry about it less now, though I still eat really healthy and exercise a lot because it makes me feel good.

Hapa I love that breakdown of the options! And Jnnmn 7, unless it interferes with your medication I vote for having those free cocktails and enjoying yourself. Hope you have a wonderful time.

OOh Jnnmn7 have one (or two) for me! Enjoy! Personally I think the stress relief of letting go for a week outweighs any risk factor!

When I was going thru chemo I asked my oncologist if I could drink. Specifically I told him "Don't take my summers away from me. I drink beer, lay out in the sun by my pool. Can I do that?" And he told me within moderation and as long as I used PLENTY of sunscreen.

    Are you kidding?

    Have fun girl!

I had a breast cancer diagnosis September 2013. They wanted to do surgery immediately because it was so aggressive but couldn't find two surgeons with corresponding schedules until January of 14. Then had reconstruction March of 14.

May of 2018 somehow breast cancer came back in the form of tumors in my scar tissue. I was like how the frick can I have breast cancer again if I have no breasts? Then I had some clusters of nodules in my lungs and fast-growing lymph nodes in my lungs. So then this past November I had lung surgery. I have drinks a couple times a week.

Screw it. Have fun and have a few drinks on your vacation.

During chemo I couldn't drink wine. Everything tasted horrible. If you still have your taste enjoy yourself. Enjoy your vacation

my doctor gave me the go ahead to have a drink or two when I felt up to it. If I were going to an all inclusive, I would be having some drinks! Enjoy your vacation!

    Cheers

How important is drinking to you? I'm not trying to be judgmental here, I'm serious. You fought cancer so you could live, am I right? I'm not much of a foodie or a drinker, and actually I have very healthy habits, but that's because it makes me feel good. If someone told me that trail running was going to increase my risk of recurrence, I doubt I would stop completely.

I also haven't given up work stress. I get an endorphin rush from being in the middle of all the trouble at work. I find it rewarding and I'm going to keep doing it. Fuck cancer. It might kill me, but until then I'm going to live!

I drank no alcohol until after my dx. I had quit for years. Now I do have wine but I drink alot of water too. If you want to drink you should and don't feel like your vacation will have a negative impact on your health. It will probably be the opposite. Happiness heals.
