My 10 year cancerversary

It's exactly 10 years ago today that I was diagnosed. I haven’t been on these boards for awhile, but just want to say how deeply grateful I am for the way the lovely ladies on here got me through. I benefited massively from both the emotional support I received here and the pooling of information from ladies with the exact same diagnosis, which really helped me with my treatment decisions.

I am happy to say that every single one of these ladies is alive and well!

I was lucky to have been diagnosed soon after Herceptin became the standard of care even for early stage Her2+ BC, and received the whole nine yards of surgery, chemo (FEC), radiation and Herceptin, for which I am grateful

To all those newly diagnosed I just wanted to share that the first part really was the hardest for me, especially the emotional trauma of diagnosis, but that it got easier with time - even all the treatment became more manageable as I went through it. To my surprise, there came a day when cancer wasn't the first thing I thought about when I woke up. And, however cliched it may sound, many good things did come out of the experience, including my lovely husband (then boyfriend) who stood by me through thick and thin.I hope you find every resource you need to get through it, both from the people around you and on this amazing forum, and from inside yourself.

With love to you all,

Lucy

Congrats Rubyluby! And thanks for coming back to post. There aren't too many of us ER-/PR-/Her2+ gals around so it's especially nice to hear from a long term survivor.

I wonder if I'll remember in 10 years? I had endometrial/uterine cancer in 2008, and I remember the hysterectomy surgery date (I think - or within a day or two) because I had to schedule time off work, but not the dx date. Even with two cancer surgeries in 2018, I have to check my calendar for when I had doctors' appointments to figure out diagnostic dates. I think I don't want it to be that large a part of my life, to mark anniversaries.

IT makes me feel good to hear you are 10 years out. I was diagnosed HER2+ er- pr- in September 2015. After a lumpectomy, taxol and Herception, followed by radiation I am clear. But I worry every day of some kind of reoccurance. Has anyone done scans other than tomography or mammogram. I would like to avoid more radiation.

Congratulations, I've also passed the 10 year mark with a similar diagnosis.

WarriorCheryl, with stage 1A treated with chemo, Herceptin and radiation, risk of a recurrance should be very low.

Congratulations, Lucy!! 10 years!! That is so inspiring to those of us who are in the beginning stages though I am quickly approaching the 2nd anniversary of my diagnosis. That time has gone so quickly. I can't believe that I will soon be saying that I am a 2 year survivor.

And congratulations to you as well, bluedasher!!

Hearing 10 year survivor is so encouraging and inspiring!! Thank you both for sharing!!
