I have had 3 fills now and after the second fill that evening a nerve in my back started hurting. It is around the shoulder blade. When I went in for the 3rd fill I mentioned is to my PS. She recommended calling my primary care and seeing about getting a script for gabepetin which I did and have been taking for a week now. The pain is not only there but it was worse when it began. It feels like my skin is on fire. Today I had my port removed and when I went to tie my gown in the back I aggravated it and it has yet to stop hurting. Muscle relaxers, pain pills and physical therapy do not help with the pain. Has anyone else experienced this? If so how did you handle it?

I had that pain on my right side after my modified radical mastectomy. The description of feeling like your skin is on fire is accurate.

The pain is not from a nerve in your back but is due to the irritation of a nerve in your chest (can't remember the name of it). The pain is referred to the back by the shoulder blade.

A strong pain killer is the only thing that helped.

I looked up your profile and see that you had bilateral mastectomies with the tissue expanders implanted at the same time. Your pain is also probably due from the chest nerve being irritated during surgery and the pressure of the expander on the nerve during fills.

The pain did slowly fade as I healed.

By the way, just as a heads up in case you also have this problem, as my chest healed and the nerves were regenerating, I would also feel intense itching in the same area in my back. I would also feel a mild ache in the area.

I did not have the nerve pain during my fills or with my implants. However, when I have massages and am lying in my stomach and pressure is being applied to my back, the implants are being pressed into my chest. I still can get the itch when that section is worked on in my back.
