Fucodian and Chemo interation

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I am seeking any suggestion for my mom. My mom just got diagnostic with HR+ and Her2+ breast cancer stage 3. She just started her 1st chemo of Herceptin+ Paclitaxel yesterday. does anyone in here had been on drug? could you share your experience with me? Also do you know those drugs have any interaction with Fucodian supplement ( the japanese brown seaweed) . I bought that supplement for her to take with hope it can help her through the chemo time.

Please share with me if you either in treatment with the same medicine or have you been taken fudocian during your treatment.

    PLEASE discuss the question of supplements with your mom's oncologist. It's really important not to use anything that may interfere with the effectiveness of chemo (and/or radiation). Supplements that would be sensible and safe after treatment can diminish the effectiveness of your mom's treatments, which I'm sure is the last thing you'd want to do.

    As far as the chemo regimen she's on, you can do a search on this board and you'll find lots of first hand reports. There's also a lot of information on the main site, which you can find the link for at the very top of this page.

    Welcome! We hope this can be a place of support for both you and your mom. We agree with Hopeful - please make sure to check with your mom's oncologist before starting any supplement. You want to make sure there are no interactions or possible issues with your mom's treatment.

    Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has on their web site a section about Integrative Medicine where you can look up herbs etc. You can read what they know about fucoidan (note spelling) there. And do have your mom share the article with her oncologist.
