My mother was diagnosed with BC last summer had lumpectomy now they want her to start radiation therapy. She can't do the Radiation everyday so the Radiation oncologist proposed doing it once weekly for 5 weeks but here is the catch she would get one weeks worth of radiation per treatment. Has anyone chosen this approach how safe is this and are the side effects the same or worse the doctor said its the same and wouldn't cause much harm and there's 10 years of data on it from the U.K that it work as good as going in everyday. its whole breast radation

Thanks

I'm sorry, I don't know enough about that protocol. I would say that in general radiation is a very proven technology for preventing recurrence and that empirical data showing results is the best evidence and 10 years of data sounds pretty good. The important thing it sounds like is whether your mom has confidence in her doctors who are recommending this option. A second opinion can often help people feel more comfortable with a particular course of therapy.

Further more its whole breast radiation its at a teaching hospital/center the doctor said the side effect would be no different then getting it everyday. So one weeks worth of rads in one day.
