Hi, I'm recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma/metaplastic breast cancer also triple negative. I'm looking to understand and connect with others with similar diagnosis. I'm getting a second opinion this week and trying to figure out next steps. My oncologist had mentioned ghat double mastectomy (which I am 4 weeks post ) will be enough with out additional treatment. Anyone have double mastectomy for this type and no further treatment like chemo??

Hello - Theres a forum for less common breast cancers and one specifically for metaplastic cancer that might give you some helpful information. It isn't very active but there aren't many folks with this type of cancer to begin with. If your oncologist isn't with a NCI accredited hospital or a university based hospital then I would recommend getting a second opinion from one who is. There's also a metaplastic breast cancer facebook group that you can look up an join - the members on there have amazing resources and information and can provide a lot of direction.

I was diagnosed with matrix forming metaplastic BC in Oct and honestly, I don't know that I'd accept being told straight off that chemo or radiation isn't necessary. Metaplastic cancers are aggressive and can be difficult to treat. My oncologist (I go to Hopkins, they have a center for rare tumors) told me that with this type of cancer they throw everything they have at it.

    Hello Rozzy,

I read your post with interest. You might like to join Calling all Triple negative breast cancer patients in the UK. It is a thread for everyone around the world.

There is a patient on the thread, Gill, who has metaplastic breast cancer that is triple negative. She is going through chemotherapy, is very informed about metaplastic etc. and I am sure the two of you can support each other. She has plenty of posts on the thread that you might like to read.

    You will get through this.

    I hope this helps.

    Love.

    Sylvia xxxx
