Pain Med Doses?
What are the typical pain meds and doses given right after BMX and prescribed for the weeks following?
I have long term illnesses that require narcotics as needed, but even taken relatively infrequently, my tolerance has creeped up over the years. For example, anyone else in the ER is started with 2mg morphine, MAYBE 4mg... I'm started with 8mg because I've been going to the same hospital for years and they have the whole history.
However, I'm going to a different hospital for the BMX and everything else. I'm pretty good at handling pain, but never having experienced this before, I don't know what the pain is like and worrying that if it's really bad, the normal pain medication people are given isn't going to cut it.
What is the normal? Has anyone else had a situation like mine and how was it handled?

I was prescribed Percocet 10/325, 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. I don't remember exactly how I took them the first couple of days, but I quickly went to taking only 1 with a plain Tylenol about every 8 hours. I was given a total of 50 and still have about a third of them left. I was also given a muscle relaxant that was super helpful
I don't have a particularly high pain threshold, but I never felt that the pain was so bad that the medicine wasn't enough. It's a blur now, kind of like childbirth. I think some other things play into it as well - meds given during surgery, type of surgery and recon, placement of incisions, etc. Mine was a 4 hour operation with implant recon above the muscle done at the same time.
I would be sure to discuss these concerns with both your surgeon as well as the anesthesiologist.

Thank you. I take two 10/325s every 6 hours, so if this pain is no worse than my stomach pain, I should be good to go. :-)

Hi. I have chronic pain and take 2 hydrocodone daily 5 mg each. I told this to every doctor, nurse, anesthesiologist, etc. because I was worried about pain control after BMX and TE expander surgery 2 weeks later. I asked and asked them to call my pain doctor. Not one person did and it was a battle to get enough Oxy after. They treated me like I was a druggie asking for extra. My and probably your pain baseline is different than others. So how did it go for you?
My pain doc is upping my number of pills for my exchange. Our secret she said
