Results stuck in pathology?
Preface: I’m a 35 year woman with no family history. Ifelt lump on 12/14. Had US and mammogram on 12/18. Lump is 2.2cm, solid, slightly lobulated. Dr said most likely Fibroadenoma but due to lobulation, size and palpable nature, a biopsy should be done.
Had US guided core biopsy on 26th. Dr said results should only take 1-2 days. Thursday and Friday, i stared at my phone all day, even bringing it into bathroom when I showered. On Monday, they called me to say the report was “stuck in pathology”. They told me they’d be on top of it and get back to me. Well that day came and went and still nothing. Of course they are closed today. I haven’t spoken to a Dr yet. Is my report lost? Do I have some sort of crazy issue they’ve never seen before
I feel so powerless and nervous.

Your report is a victim of people taking vacations over the holidays most likely.
-
I know you’re most likely right but it doesn’t help my nerves.

In the same boat w you; waiting to find out about my pathology report. My Lumpectomy was Friday. Hopefully they won't be too hung over to read our results. Hard to wait!!
-
prayers for a good result

Could also be that the radiologist and pathologist are going back and forth. I started calling to get my results about 5 days post CNB. They gave me the results that were in, benign. But then has to follow up the next week that it’s discordant. Almost might have been easier waiting until radiology and pathology had finished conferring. Hang in there
-
Myresults were delayed because they needed to send my slides to a tie-breaker institution.
-
ThNk you. I appreciate this insight
-
what exactly does that mean? The sampke needed more sophisticated technology?
-
I guess it is standard procedure for two pathologists to look at the specimen independently at the local lab. Mine came back DCIS / LCIS by one pathologist, and ADH/ALH by another. They then sent the specimen out to Vanderbilt for a third opinion, which took nearly an extra week. The third pathologist called it ADH/ALH. Apparently both results look very similar under a microscope. The good news in this type of delay is that none of those diagnoses are invasive cancer. My onc said IDC was easy to distinguish with the staining process they use in pathology.

thank you for explaning

update: noduleis a fat necrosis. Thanks to everyone who wrote and good luck on your journeys
-
phew!
-
yay! Phew is right
-
just had my follow up ultrasound. It grew. I don’t think fat necrosis can grow.. so what the hell is it? Radiologist said I can either do another biopsy or have it cut out (and tested). I’m opting for surgery but I’m so freaked out again. I tried to schedule consult with them best breast surgeon around but it’s a month long wait. UGHHHH

Surgery sound like the most proactive choice! I hope you get an appointment with a surgeon soonest!
