3d nipple tattoo so emotionally healing
Hi everyone,
I have been struggling immensely with anxiety since going through treatment a year ago. And I've been working hard at trying to manage my anxiety. I've go to weekly support group, art therapy. Plus mindfulness class, accupuncture, meditation, exercise, essential oils. All of this only helped somewhat and never for long.
A few weeks ago, I had my 3d nipple tattoo. And I can't even begin to describe how healing it had been for me. It was a transformative event. Now I can look at myself. Before I could not. Now I feel most like myself since I began all this.
I can't recommend it more. We all deserve to heal and find ourselves again
Here's an article on my experience. I hope it helps give you more insight and helps you make your decision.

I'm so happy for you, and happy to hear it. I had my mastectomy almost three weeks ago and have tissue expander now. Can't wait for the exchange surgery to happen so I can move on with my life. It will be some time before I have to decide about the tattoo, but reading your post gives me a little glimmer of hope. Thanks for this.

Thank you so much for posting the good news about nipple tattoos. It's really helpful to hear that you find it healing. I still have a few more months of net-adjutant surgery but am trying to decide whether or not to reconstruct. I think if I do choose reconstruction I'd like it to be as natural as possible.
Have a great week!

I have had 2 failed tatoo attempts. I still can't bring myself to go into a tattoo parlour, I had mine done at the doctors office in Seattle area. I would like to feel done with the cosmetic process.
Any ideas for 3d tattoo near Seattle?

Meow, I actually do this in the Los Angeles area :-) But I have heard good things about the above linked woman. Did your tats just fade?
-
Thanks Jackster, I think I will call.
-
Oh oh my goodness. I am so sorry for forgetting that I posted to hear about my nipple tattoo. Does anyone else have memory issues and treatment?
I am not sure myself of anyone that does nipple tattoos in Seattle. But the tattoo artist who I used actually trains tattoo artist from across the country to do nipple tattoos. And perhaps she may have trained someone who's from Seattle. Or she just may know of someone. So I suggest you give her a call. Her name is Mandy sauler and her company is called the sauler Institute. Fact I just saw her Monday for a touch-up on my tattoo. She's a fabulous professional and incredible person. I'm sure if she could help you she would. And she does have a Facebook page. That's another way to reach her. I hope you're able to find someone close to you.

Meow-Eric Eye does nipple tats in Seattle. I’m not there yet, but have heard good things..

I'm at the point right now where I have to decide on getting nipples created or just getting 3D tattoo. I was really going to have nipples created but I like wearing a very thin coobie bra and I don't want nipples changing that. Are you glad you didn't have nipples created
-
yes, i'm glad i just did tattoo and not nipple reconstruction. but i couldn't decide either. i actaully delayed the tatto for months while i tried to make up my mind about nipple reconstruction. i could have gotten fat grafting at he same time to cover some ribs showing. but i soooo hate surgery and recovery.
my PS finally said, try just the tattoo and live with it a while. and if you're still not happy, try the surgery and just have the tattoo redone. so that's what i did. and walked out of my tattoo appointment knowing that i was done. didn't need the reconstruction. perhaps this approach might help you too....you know, just to feel like you ended up with the choice that's best for you.
i see you you are in PA. i'm in wilmington, de. are you near me? you could use my tattoo artist if so. mandy sauler at the sauler institute. i saw her at penn medicine but she goes to a number of locations in the greater philly area and nyc too. mandy can also tattoo over scars with ink that matches your skin color. if the scar hasn't faded in color enough for you.
annnnd..... if you are near me, consider joining the facebook group i started. it's called in this together philly/wilmington. it's for breast cancer patients and survivors of any age in the greater philly area and DE and NJ. we share local resources. we share support. and when we get together -- next get together is tomorrow -- we share real hugs. new members are always welcome. always. please join us and please share with anyone else. here's the link.

I still haven't done this, I even contacted madam lozenge in Seattle. $600, I think it is a mental issue I have going there and where it is located. It is near pike place market very congested area.
-
Oh I'm sorry, sweetie. But I understand. Anxiety and it's power is very real and often daunting. Have you considered talking to someone about this? Check with your cancer center. Most offer free therapy to their patients.
As for cost . Wow. So expensive. But, if that artist is that good, could be worth it. Try getting help with the cost. Look into a charity called pink Ink. There's so mission is to help women like us afford 3-D nipple tattoos. Also check with your insurance. They may cover a portion of it. and finally ask for a social worker at your cancer center. And then ask the social worker for help finding grants to help pay for a portion of the tattoo. I think if you work those three angles you should be able to come up with enough financial support.
-
I'm on the east coast, but check with your local cancer resources. There are many tattoo parlors who have artists that do them free or low cost for cancer patients. Check with your oncologist or surgeon. I have an awesome lady here if anyone in NC needs them done. She's a great artist and so wonderful about it. I had mine done two years ago and it made me feel much like the original poster, "real" again.
and I should add, the majority of the artists that do this, will bring you in in the morning before the shop opens, or work with you on your comfort level. They do tattoos every day, I believe they will always do a better job then a doctor at them. The ones working for the good of the people won't charge a crazy fee, Sarah does them free or if you are able, she'll take $50 for doing them, and put that into inks and supplies so she can do more. Anyone that would charge $600 for it is in it for the money and I wouldn't let them do it for me anyway.

3bears, about your comment, "I like wearing a very thin coobie bra and I don't want nipples changing that."
I have fake nipples and tattoos (Vinnie's) and am thrilled with the combination. I wear Coobie bras exclusively, without the padded inserts, and the nipples never show. Just thought you would be interested.
-
msarchich - I also used Mandy and am still very happy with the results 6 years later. She was so professional and talented. She quickly put me at ease and took her time to decide which colors best matched my skin tone. She included me in the decisions as well. All of my treatment was at Penn, so it was pretty comfortable to have my tattoos done there. However, as you stated, she has other locations including New York City.
I had the origami nipple surgery the year before and the tattoos were the finale. I never regretted my decision.
It is my understanding that some insurance companies might cover this procedure since it is done in the PS's office. I did not file my claim, so I was not reimbursed. I was okay with this since the cost was half of what the more well known east coast tattoo artist charged.
I highly recommend finishing reconstruction with 3d tattoos. For me, it completed the process and allowed me to move on.
-
yes. exactly. i feel the same way. it completed the process and allowed me to move on. so very true.
two weeks ago i had mandy touch up my tattoo. and then every day that week i was flashing somebody. even a stranger who is also a survivor.
the power of the nipple. i'm telling you. it is real. and it is healing.
also, i see you're sooo close to me. i'm in wilmington. my husband works in media. this sunday, the breast cancer group i started is having a get together for lunch. would you join us? any of you are welcome. we try and get together fairly regularly. and i try to alternate the locations so everyone in the group can easily get there. we have people in allentown. and in middletown, de.
join our group on facebook. we'd love to have you and anyone else. we are called in this together philly/wilmington.

I had looked into both Vinnie Myers and Mandy (Sauler Institute) but the scheduling for both was kind of a nightmare and was hoping to find a closer by alternative (I’m in Manhattan NY). I actually found a place on Brighton, Brooklyn (Love Your Body; look up Zlata Von Emme) which does 3D nipple/areola tattoos that are extremely realistic looking. I have somewhat complicated nipple/areola coloring with multiple shades and spots surrounding the areola area and was concerned about finding the right person to do the job ( I had a unilateral earlier in the year and it was extremely important to me that the reconstructed nipple and areola tattoo matched my healthy existing side. Zlata, the one who did my tattoo was amazing. She was thorough, explained everything very clearly to me, and I felt extremely safe, excited and hopeful throughout the entire process with her. The results were phenomenal and I was really happy with the outcome. They were actually way better than I had hoped for. So if anyone is looking for an alternative to Vinnie Myers and is on the east coast, maybe look her up. Love Your Body NYC on Brighton, Brooklyn or look up Zlata Von Emme.
But yeah, completely agree that having this done has helped me feel more whole. spiritually and physically and mentally.
-
your post makes me so happy. i'm glad you didn't stop looking until you found someone for you. and then love that it turned out so great. congrats. glad you're feeling the healing too.

I still can't bring myself to go to downtown Seattle tattoo parlor madame lozenges, such a turn off to me. I did 2 attemps at doctors office with no success.
-
Meow, check out Eric Eye at Dark Ages Tattoo on 12th and Pike in Capital Hill. I think you'll be very surprised at how classy it is. Eric has you come in before they open so it's very peaceful and quiet. I've also been there in the middle of the day and I felt more like I was in Nordstroms than a tattoo parlor. Eric does everything he can to make you feel comfortable. His girlfriend has been through it all so he knows exactly how you feel. My DH and I find a nice place for lunch and make a day of it. Couple good Thai places within walking distance if you like Thai.
Honestly, now my chest looks normal. Sure, no big breasts hanging there but the nipples just look like they belong and even I forget they're tattoos.

That is great to hear! I had my double mastectomy about 6 months ago. I had reconstruction and implants and was not able to keep my nipples. I need 3D nipple tattoos but can’t seem to find someone I feel comfortable with in Michigan. How do I find a good one

I am so happy to read how nipple tattooing has made women feel complete.I finished my reconstruction on Valentine's Day 2018. I also have back problems and am facing my third surgery in 2+ years due to the 4 bars and 36 screws in my back. After my second back surgery where my surgeon fixed a screw that was protruding out of my back, I found out I had breast cancer. My cancer was found at stage one (HER+), after chemo I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction because I did not want to have to worry about the second breast developing the same cancer. I was blessed to have no lymph node cancer and no residual cancer, I did have to have 11 Herceptin infusions every 3 weeks after my mastectomy and during my expander filling and reconstruction. I finished those in May 2018. I did not have to have radiation therapy.
My first back surgery was in November 2015. At age 55 I had developed severe scoliosis. And the top of my spine had started to twist. I live in a small town outside of Gettysburg, PA. It took me 2 years to find a surgeon who would fix my back. I was referred to a surgeon at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. He is the ortho doctor for the Eagles and Phillies. I am facing another back surgery in November 2018 due to the chemo breaking down the rods and screws that were put in at my second back surgery December 2016. The reason I am sharing all this is that for three years straight I have had tens of thousands of money in medical bills. I have a high deductable so four surgeries in 2 years has put a big strain on our finances.
I now am looking at my body and seeing all these scars and breasts without nipples and am very depressed. I have decided to have my nipples tattooed on because I hate to look at myself when I get out of the shower or in any mirror. My Plastic Surgeon recommended a tattoo artist who only does nipple tattooing in Finksburg, MD. He is highly praised for his work. The charge is $800.00 total. Of course I am feeling bad about spending the money but after reading about how much better women feel about themselves I have decided to spend the money. Our wonderful insurance will not pay for tattooing unless a doctor does it(and of course there really is not a doctor in this area who comes as highly recommended as the artist in Finksburg, MD). For anyone who lives in the Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia area he is at the most 2 hours away. His team is The Vinnie Myers Team, 2025 Suffolk Rd., Finksburg, MD 21048. 410-876-4638. Email, vinniemyersteam.com. Check his website because he periodically travels to different areas. I know he will be traveling to the Dallas, TX area soon.
I pray that after my back surgery in November that I will be able to move forward after 3 years of major surgeries and limitations in my life.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story.

Hi! I have an appt. for my "Vinnie"s in 2 weeks, driving to Birmingham for the procedure. Blue Cross won't pre-certify, of course, for the reasons you stated, but I plan to appeal...citing the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998. My plastic surgeon even wrote a letter stating it's medically necessary (also, that he'd be willing to do it, too). I imagine he'd do it for more than $1,200 but, still, I have a letter. Do you have any words of advice or things you've learned as you've tried to get insurance to accept the 3D-tattooing? Thanks!

Wish I could join you.

Hello, ladies - I hope you don't mind my jumping in from another forum. I have a dumb question. I am getting 3D tattoos next week at Vinnie Myers in Maryland. I had a BMX and will get both sides done to the tune of $800. I know you tip the artist when you get a regular tattoo, but it's a pretty steep cost because insurance doesn't pay. If the answer is yes, how much? 20% is $160. Ouch. Thanks everyone i can't wait to finally be done with everything. Sharon

I would just ask him what's customary. My guy said no tips because it was considered medical - kind of like the difference between a massage for physical therapy and a massage just for relaxation.
My son said tattoo prices are normally $100 per hour so you can see you are already paying plenty for your tattoo.

Hello,
Please forgive me for jumping into your conversation here but I wanted to share! I am a breast cancer survivor, medical professional and cosmetic tattoo artist. No, I am not selling my services here but wanted to point out that within my cosmetic tattoo industry there are hundreds of extremely talented cosmetic tattoo artists that do an absolute beautiful job with 3D nipple/areola tattoos.
Most of us have not aspired to be "famous" and price our services very compassionately. I charge $450 for bilateral and $375 for unilateral, for instance. I also include as many appointments as are required because often truly realistic results require slowly building up colour to give dimension.
If anyone is interested, I have trained throughout Canada and the US with some fabulous artists and would love to share their names with you. I am located in Vancouver, BC where, unfortunately because tattoos are covered when done in a physician's office, it is often their nurse or (in my very well known plastic surgeon's case) their receptionist performing these procedures to make a buck.
I have tried many times to volunteer my time with the BC Cancer Agency as well as information nights for all kinds of breast cancer events, but am often denied access because the doctors run these events. It's really a shame.
Thank you for listening.

Kelly - Thank you for your post. In my search for tattoos, I found that there are many options available for women today. The field is expanding and many talented artists are now offering professional 3D tattoos for a very reasonable cost. I used a woman who works out of my PS's office a few days a week. She was fantastic and I love my 3D nipples.
I wish that there was a way to make a list of recommended tattoo artists. Women often come to this site looking for recommendations and it would be great to have a reference list that they could search.

I am being quoted $600, I just have one side that I want a match. Doesn't have to be perfect just about the same color.
