My Five Years are Done

Tomorrow I will take my 1825th Tamoxifen. I am hoping to see an improvement in my:

Cognitive abilities

Joint pain

Weight

and the list goes on.

I must say I am nervous about stopping Tamoxifen. At the moment I am more scared that my period will return than I am of a recurrence!

Is there anything I should know about stopping Tamoxifen? It seems crazy to take a medicine for 5 years and then just stop (even though parts of my body feel more like 83 than 53).

Any advice?

That is such a great question ... what to expect upon stopping. Congratulations and I hope your body starts to feel less intervened upon. Wishing you gentleness and the exciting rediscovery of your amazing and non-medicated body.

I’m 7 years out last August. My MO told me I could quit taking it but taper off instead of totally stopping as in one every other day, etc. For me it did make a difference esp with the joint pain.

I did worry about quitting though because it was my extra insurance policy against a recurrence. My MO said there was no reason for me to continue and run the risk of a blood clot.

I had IDC, Stage 1b, Grade 1. Oncotype score was 11. Early stage, 8% chance of recurrence.

I can relate to everything you are saying. I am about to go off of mine as well in March, after being on it for five years. Every doctor of mine tells me I should celebrate going off of it. You should celebrate as well. I think that is strange also about quitting it all at once after five years

I quit it cold turkey and never looked back. It has a pretty long half life so it'll be in your system for a while. I thought going off it would help with the hot flashes. Not so much. Still have them something fierce nearly four years post ooph.
