biopsy tomorrow, exercise question
My biopsy is tomorrow, I have been doing a lot of research, I'm sure not a good thing. I had posted my mammogram report and most things I've heard and read are in favor of it being benign but I have also read enough too that I'm still worried. I know most calcifications are DCIS but if it's not, what else could it be?
I have heard that the biopsy isn't that bad but then I have read some posts saying it is. My question is about exercising after that, not the same day but would I be able to workout by Friday? I really need this for my own stress relief right now!

Also, how long does it usually take to get biopsy results back? I have heard 2-3 days usually. Will the tech be able to tell me anything? Will I be able to see what they biopsy?

Most calcifications are not DCIS or any cancer. Most of us develop calcifications as we age. I think how long for results just depends on the facility and how busy they are.
This aftercare sheet says no lifting over five pounds or vigorous exercise for three days after. The radiologist won’t be able to tell by looking or tell you much more than you know now.

ugh seriously? That sucks about the exercise, j figured I couldn’t do any jumping or anything but no lifting either kinda suck
-
My aftercare instructions were no vigorous exercise for 48 hours. This is to avoid risk of bleeding. Ice will be your friend to keep discomfort at bay. They won’t be able to tell you anything the day of. You will not be able to see what they take out. As far as results... I have gotten results in as little as 1 day up to 4 days.
Hang in there. This process of biopsy and waiting is so very stressful! I have made it successfully through 3 biopsies...you can do it too!

thank you @wigging2000, I’m nervous, just ready to get results at this point. I’ll admit, I have been drinking way more than normal lately. Ugh

Brooke-
I forgot to give you my best advice for a biopsy. Before the procedure I recommend that you ask them exactly when and how you will be told the results (phone call, another appointment, etc). For me, knowing exactly how and when I could expect the results was very calming. I wish for benign results for you, and listen...nothing wrong with a few drinks at a time like this. Hope you get some sleep tonight and that everything goes smoothly tomorrow. Hugs.

thanks! I will for sure ask them that. I know exactly what will happen if I have cancer because I went thri this with my mom last year... probably part of the reason I’m so nervous. My mom had idc, stage 1, 1 lymph node remove, lumpectomy and rads. Alll is good now 😘 thank you so muvj

Yeah, ask them for aftercare instructions, but I would take a couple of days off. Bumping the area can cause a hematoma. I had one and it really really hurt. So take it easy. You could probably take a walk the second day. I used to not miss a workout and having cancer taught me it's ok to take a break!
-
I walked and walked and walked when I couldn't do weight bearing exercises. I did this from the moment I got home from anything at the hospital (including lumpectomies). I also did light yoga (but not downward dog). I would stick an ice pack in my bra and off I'd go.
Literally, the only reason I didn't go to work the day after my biopsy was because I work at a school, and the fireproof doors are too damn heavy for me to open. I did go back three days later and I would wait for kids to open them for me!

Hi Brooke! Are you having an excisional biopsy, or needle biopsy? I was able to do light exercise the day after my stereo biopsy, but had to wait a while after my excisional biopsy. Also, I just want to share my experience to set your mind at ease. Like Melissa said above, most calcifications are not cancer. I went through what you're going through just last year, and my mind went to the absolute worst place. I had calcifications as well, but mine were grouped and linear, which can indicate DCIS. I had a stereo biopsy in December, which showed ADH(Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia). I received my results in about 2-3 days. Went on to have an MRI & excisional biopsy to make sure nothing else was hiding, and the diagnosis remained the same. I hope your biopsy goes well. Thinking of you today.

Thank you so much everyone. I’m all done, they only biopsied one area instead of 2 saying the other area is very layered which indicated it's benign, they said the other area was pretty scattered which is good too. Teachermom, they wanted me to do an mri and then the biopsy which wouldn't have been today but we insisted to do the biopsy and then do the mri at a later date, it took a long time for them to find the area to biopsy because of my implants, so far I’m feeling positive and not sore or anything yet

glad you are done, Brooke and hope you get good news results very soon!

thank you! Me too
