Ladies,

I had my 3 month check up yesterday, and I noticed my Aklaline Phoshatase level was trending up although not in the high level (1 point away) so I asked my Onc, and he ordered a test to see if coming from the liver or bone. The bone test results came back high (5 points above the top range of normal). He is going to repeat the test in 6 weeks. Dr. Google says this can mean bone cancer. I am a freaking out now. Anyone else have this without bone cancer where it was related to the Arimdex?

I am entering my sixth year (I'm on the 10 year plan) on Arimidex and my ALP is frequently in the upper range of normal or just a bit elevated, while the other liver numbers are right at normal. My oncologist and NP will also run the liver/bones test and my elevated ALP has always, so far, been from the liver. My next stop is an abdominal ultrasound which has yeilded "unremarkable" results, and from there, a tour of the MRI tube again yeilded "unremarkable" results.

While it is nerve wracking, I am very grateful to be monitored so closely.

There is one time when all my liver numbers were drastically elevated and I was having SEVERE stomach pain along with nausea and vomiting. My primary doc suspected gall stones and after consulting with my oncologist and having both a CT and MRI, I had gall stones. I no longer have a gall bladder, but, my ALP still runs high.

I don't know if the Arimidex causes the elevated ALP, but if it does, I'll live with it as long as it keeps me living. Hope my experience helps you sleep a little easier tonight.

Hi Crissie, I have been on arimidex for 4 years and have mildly elevated ALK phosphatase. All of my liver enzymes are fine and dexa scans have been fine. Gall bladder seems fine, so not sure if it's from the arimidex or not. My main concern is the pain in my joints ,bones and muscles. But it could be so much worse.,!!
