Hi

I went off letrozole after 5 years in 2014-at the time my onc said that there was not research that would convince her that longer was better (she herself is a researcher at Farber)... I noticed at the San Antonio conference there was some mention of 10 years now becoming the standard. I have reached out to my onc about this but was wondering if anyone else has been off for a while and thinking about going back on (to be clear, I have NO interest in going back on) but I also want to be sure I am making a good decision based on good data....

I've only been on since april 2018, but I asked my MO about why you stop at 5 years (if you are tolerating side effects). She said previously it had been studied to be safe (again, depending on your side effects) for 5 years, but now has been studied to be safe for 10. Safe is, of course, a relative term. She said that means if you are not experiencing unbearable side effects, blood work is normal, feeling okay. It obviously wouldn't be possible for many of us, but that's what she mentioned about the 5 vs 10 years.

    Hi moman2kids

I'm about to get off tamoxifin after 5 yrs. I just seen my Monc Monday and she was fine with it. I just want to know from women off it how they do. I heard that it may take up to a year to get out of system. I also wanted to know did their period start back up. I'm 52 my dr told me she doubt it will. I know a few ppl who were dx and were told 10 yrs now.

The 10 year recommendation is if you're node positive.

I stopped at five years out. My onc wanted ten, but did not pressure me. Not going back.
