BIRADS 5 Ultrasound and Biopsy...waiting is so hard...
hi everyone, a little about my story. I'm 46, not yet menopausal, no family history. I had a clear 3D mammogram in September. In October, I felt a pea sized lump in my left breast while showering. I went to my gyn who didn't think much of it since I'd just had a normal mammogram. She told me to wait a cycle to see if it went away. It didn't, so I went for an ultrasound whichever showed an “ovoid irregular hypoechoic mass with no internal vascularity, 8mm x 10mm x 12 mm". Breast surgeon examined me and thought it felt like a piece of fatty tissue. Had biopsy last Wednesday the 12th, should have results tomorrow or Tuesday. I haven't been able to eat or sleep, im so worried. Im also just stunned I guess since this never showed up on my annual mammogram. As strange a question as this is, did you actually feel relieved when you finally knew your results? Thank you warriors, love and hugs to all! Kare

Hi Kare, I did feel some relief at hearing my results, even though it definitely wasn't what I'd been hoping for. I had some inkling that my biopsy wouldn't be benign, and waiting for the news was torture, like knowing a large rock is going to fall on you and you can't duck out of its way and also don't know exactly when it's going to come. Once it falls, you can start throwing all your energy at dealing with the damage. Hoping for good results for you! Hang in there!

I will add that about six years ago I went through a biopsy process for a lump that didn't look quite benign on ultrasound, but it was. So, it CAN happen, and waiting for those results was just as torturous, even though the result was better that time.
-
Thank you Purplecat. I should hear today. I hate the thought of getting the phone call at work! :
-
Karen,
We are waiting here with you, no matter the results. Keep breathing

Just got the call. It's BC. Estrogen and Progesterone positive(I forgot to ask about HER). Doc said it is small and he doesn't think I will need a mastectomy. Meeting with him tomorrow. I'm in complete shock right now.
-
Kare, I am sorry for your diagnosis. I am glad you are meeting with the surgeon so quickly. If you can take someone along to this appointment. You will get so much information, it becomes hard to follow it all. Some have suggested asking if you can record the consult on your phone. I remember how much of a shock it all was in the beginning, but once you and your team get a plan together you will be in fight mode and feel a bit better about things. Let us know how the appointment goes, we are here for you.
-
Ok. We hear you are in shock and that is very normal.
It's gonna take some time for everything about YOUR picture to come into view (BC is an umbrella term)
Here is a link that can give you some practical things to do in the meantime

I am so sorry, Kare. Andyou CAN do this.

Very sorry to hear. I’m so glad you get to meet with your doctor so quickly. That should alleviate some of your concerns. You are in a super scary time period right now. Take it one step at a time. Gather up some questions, go to your appointment and focus on the very next step. You can do this and we are here for you!

PurpleCat, the way you described the waiting and a rock falling on you is spot on!!! I had a biopsy Friday, radiologist told me at the time it was probably stage 2. It’s 2 centimeters with highly irregular borders, birads 4. Waiting by my phone for that rock to fall any day now.
