It looks like everyone is making progress!!! Yay!
I had my 2nd surgery to remove nodes. She had a hard time finding her way around because I already have my lat flap in place, so the anatomy under my armpit is pretty much upside down! Anyhow, she dig around quite a bit and is confident she got everything. If the pathology results are good, I won't need radiation. Fingers crossed. I will most likely be on some kind of med because I'm er/pr positive, but I can handle that.
This surgery was a walk in the park comparatively! I got my last ouchie/gross drain pulled and I have one new one. Overall, a positive experience. I've been so fortunate with my health care team. And I got lots of chocolate pudding.
Keep healing, ladies!!!! And good luck to those who are about to take the journey!

Just returned from onco. Final diagnosis was not surprising, but recommended treatment is. Still digesting.
-
Hugs, MC Baker. I have my oncology appointment on the 17th and am already nervous.
I can imagine that treatment does take awhile to process and think through. Hugs.
-
Went to my first PT appointment because my left arm has become very stiff from the surgery and I need to be able to get my arm over my head comfortably so I can start radiation treatments soon. The therapist was really nice and it felt good to have someone manipulate my arm and massage it. Now I've got my exercises to do at home.
-
Hugs to you, MCBaker. You will get through this and we are here for you.
Heather, so glad your 2nd surgery went well! Fingers crossed for no radiation!
Rosie, glad to hear you are getting physical therapy for your range of motion. My range of motion has come back pretty well for the most part, though I can't lift my right arm as high as my left. But it gets better every day as long as I keep doing my exercises. So keep at it, and you'll be flexible again!
I have my first oncologist appointment on Monday and I'm starting to get nervous. Part of me was hoping the mastectomy would be the worst thing I'd have to endure, but I have a feeling the MO will have more "fun" ahead for me. At the very least tamoxifen, which I dread. And chemo isn't off the table either, pending further testing. I guess there's no point in worrying about things I don't know to be certain yet, so I'll just try to keep it off my mind until Monday.
Hope you all are having a nice weekend!

Hi everyone! I had a UMX/nipple sparing and immediate pre-pec implant recon on 11/13. Had a drain for 2 weeks and it was at 15 ccs a day when it came out. Since it's been out, though, it's been painful. Not pain med painful, just very tender and annoying. About 10 days after removal had to face the fact that it's still very swollen and sloooowwwlly getting worse. Going in for an ultrasound and possible aspiration Monday and am back on antibiotics (for my nipple, which has a patch that is struggling, but should make it). The antibiotics seemed to help the tenderness and swelling a bit, so bonus. Anyone else have trouble with seroma or hematoma, or am I the lucky odds winner?
-
Hi Elisabeth! I also had surgery on 11/13 (BMX, nipple sparing with immediate pre-pec recon, just like you)! I'm so sorry to hear you're having swelling and pain after getting your drains out! That sounds very unpleasant (to put it mildly). Knock on wood, I haven't had any problems with swelling or seroma since getting my drains out, but I do know this sort of thing happens. Sounds like you are doing the right things with antibiotics and scheduling an appt with your doc. I hope you start to feel some relief over the weekend so you don't need aspiration. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
-
Hi Elisabeth. I had a seroma on one side while my drain is still in. It's been clogged since about five days after surgery and barely drains. Last week the surgeon used a needle to drain at least 50cc's from it. The drain is slooooowly draining what's there now, but the fluid is still deep red. I am 1 1/2 weeks since surgery. He is leaving the drain in for another week and said he will surgically make a small incision to drain it next Monday if it doesn't start improving on its own by then. Don't worry - I am facing the gamut of issues and surprises with my case....you are never alone! Hang in there. They said the fluid can absorb over time on it's own if need be.
-
Overdid it today and my armpit hurts sooo badly! I had to take pain meds after being off of them the past few days. My node dissection was last Wednesday.
I drove to appointments and over reached a few times, putting on my coat, picking things up, shaved my legs for the first time since chemo started in May, etc. My bad. My hubby is cranky at me aka 'i told you so"! Owie. I hope this gets better soon and I didn't mess anything up.
Keep healing, everyone! You all inspire me!

So this got bad. It feels like a hot knife stabbing under my armpit. I have a pretty high threshold but this is another level for me. My oxy finally kicked in and it's still there...just more dull.
My armpit and underarm/tricep flabby area is a tiny bit swollen and a little warm. Is this the start of lymphodema? Maybe cording? This is rough. I'm 5 days post surgery (the 2nd one) and I'm calling my surgeon in the AM. Wow.

Thanks for the support, sisters! I really improved from the antibiotics over the weekend-ultrasound yesterday showed a small 10 cc pocket, not worth the risk of draining. The very nice doctor and I decided I had more of an infection from the drain, not a big seroma. Now to get my poor nipple healed!
Heather-I had the incision from sentinel node testing from my first surgery in July. I found it the most painful part of the recovery from a lumpectomy and breast lift. Overreaching was a real problem-I hear you. I hope it's just strain from overexertion. I noticed that any pulling feeling really improved at about the 3-4 week mark. I presumed it was when the internal dissolvable stitches dissolved. Hope the doctor has a good answer for you.

Hello all and I'm glad to find this forum. I had a dmx with TE on Nov 16. Seem to be healing well but I am so tired! Anyone have any idea when this post surgery fatigue will get better? I met with the oncologist last week and she ordered onoxtype and Mammaprint, I'm er/pr positive and Her- so I know tamoxifen is in my future but she is leaning towards no chemo unless the tests show otherwise. My tumor ended up being grade 1 (it was grade 2 at biopsy???) and 7mm but I did have a pesky lymph node that was positive. I'm glad no chemo, but the lymph node scares me! When I asked about stage, she said 1b, but I thought the lymph node put you in stage 2???
-
Hello beautiful ladies! I hope all of you are doing well!
My oncologist called me this morning......my Oncotype came back at 38. I was not really expecting it to be so high! Soooo, here we go with chemo starting this Friday! I am trying to digest this news and get ready to begin the next chapter in my treatment. I'm ready to get this show on the road.
Anyone else hear results lately? We are all in that 'in between' stage of being done with surgery and waiting for test results to determine our next steps. I am thinking of all you and sending lots of hugs!!! I hope we keep this thread going to support each other. In addition, I'll be hopping over the December Chemo thread. Maybe I'll 'see' some of you over there. Take care, ladies!!!
-
How long did it take you to get your onxyotype results back?
-
Mine took 2 weeks. Waiting was hard!!!
-
Heather, so sorry you are having so much pain! What did your doc say when you called? Hopefully you can get some relief soon!
Elisabeth, glad you didn't have to have your seroma drained, and fingers crossed it doesn't get any bigger!
Jen2Mom, welcome! I hope your tests come back favorable for avoiding chemo!
Christine, so sorry to hear your Oncotype was so high! I hope your chemo goes as smoothly as possible.
I had my first MO appointment yesterday and am currently waiting for my Mammaprint results to determine if I will need chemo. I should know by the end of next week. Even though I am Stage I, Grade 1, no node involvement, my Ki-67 is very high (60%) so the MO just wants to make sure my cancer isn't a "wolf in sheep's clothing", as he put it. Not to mention that my final pathology report after BMX showed multiple cancer sites. Best to do the test to see what we are truly dealing with before we write off chemo. He also wants to start me on Tamoxifen. So that is something else to look forward to, ha!
Hope you all are doing well, healing quickly, and enjoying the holiday season! Cheers!
-
gosh Christine, chemo is starting already this Friday? Hugs...that seems like a quick turnaround! Wow. I know you will rock chemo...but sorry that you have to do it.
To all waiting for results and recovering...hugs to you as well. It doesn’t seem fair that we “recover” and then go straight to oncology, but I guess it’s all kind of part of it. I’m not sure if I will get any test results at my oncology appointment on Monday or not. My original tumor (IDC)was grade 2 to 3...they also found surprise DCIS and LCIS in addition to ILC so not sure how any of this adds up. From my pathology report my stage appears to be 1a. I’m trying to stay peaceful as I wait...for results and to get these dreadful drains out.
-
Hi gals! My heart goes out to all of you that are waiting for results...and that have just found out you are starting chemo soon 💓 I’m sending you BIG, gentle hugs and strength.
I met with my Oncologist yesterday-and she started me on a five year course of Tamoxifen. I was never a fan of birth control, and the way it made my body feel...I’m curious what will happen with the estrogen blocking fun of this pill
Take good care...love reading updates and seeing all the courage here!
-
My acute stabbing pain is gone, but it's still pretty sore. Dr thinks I overdid it yesterday. Resting today helped and I see my plastic surgeon tomorrow so he can take a look. It's a little swollen and warm still today.
I meet with cancer surgeon Friday and will hopefully get pathology from axillary dissection. Im glad I was able to do chemo first. Best of luck to those who are starting chemo soon! (You can do it, Christine!)
-
Today I got my pathology report. There was no DCIS or malignancy in either breast. I am so relieved (and exhausted from all the stress and waiting). I hope and pray that others who are waiting for results get just as good news as I did.
-
Hope everyone is doing good. I meet with the oncologist today to find out when my chemo starts and also to get results of my pet scan. I am more nervous about the pet scan results then starting chemo. I spoke to a friend who is an oncologist and she suggested a re excision because my margins were so close. My surgeon said there is no way to do a re excision because she took as much skin as she could and I am stitched really tight as it is. She suggested radiation after chemo because of the close margin. Nothing is ever straight forward in this cancer treatment. I was all for bilateral mastectomy and chemo and anything else they want to throw at me but I feel every visit something new always comes up. I am hoping todays appointment goes well and no more surprises.
-
Kerri, that's wonderful news! Yay!!!
Heather, rest and relax today. You deserve it! :-)
sugarmaple, I also was never a fan of birth control, so I am also not looking forward to starting Tamoxifen. Hoping you have very minimal side effects!
Marriett, good luck today! I hope you get good news on your pet scan!
-
Kerri, such good news!!!
Thanks, evily! I'm a WI girl and grew up in Watertown... close to you!!!
So much better today. I actually got my first 50cc fill in my expanders today! Watching for lymphedema but looks good so far!
Then I went to meet my coworkers for dinner. First night out in so long! Great time and dinner, but my husband needed to pick me up! The wine hit me so hard! I felt so ridiculous calling him to get me, but I'm glad I did!
Now time for bed! Lots of love to all of you on your way!
-
heatherautumn, so glad you got a night out! I am off all my meds except Tylenol now so wine is in my near future!
Mariett-hope your appointment went well.
Re:tamoxifen...I was horrible on birth control and am absolutely terrified of the stuff. I know it’s in my very near future. We can do this ladies!
-
Hi everyone. I had my DMX 11/15 and it went pretty well except the nerve block didn't work so I was screaming in the recovery room when I woke up
My PS wanted to wait 2 weeks for me to heal so my next surgery was 11/30 with hopes to put in implants. I wasn't ready yet so I got prepectoral TEs.
Here's my issue...I started to feel decent between surgeries but this time, I'm two weeks out and and utterly exhausted. It's been the past 3 days, just the thought of getting out of my recliner is too much, usually by about 3:00pm I'm ok for a couple of hours. I am getting enough sleep at night.
Any advice, thoughts, ideas on this?
Thanks! Jamiesue
-
I would go to my doctor and request a blood chemistry. I also use a fitbit, only to assess amount and quality of sleep at this point. Just because I subjectively believe that I slept well does not mean I actually did.
-
Jamiesue- I had BMX on 11/30 and reconstruction on 12/6. I was feeling great by day 6 after the first procedure but the second one knocked me out quite a bit harder. I am one week out of the second surgery and extremely tired and mentally foggy. I was sleeping almost non stop at first after surgery #2, if I sit I will sleep lol! So I am trying to move around more. Are you on nerve pain meds or muscle relaxers that might be making you tired? I just finished mine yesterday and have felt better already. I think the two anasthesias and surgeries together have just been producing a cumulative effect for me as well.
We have been through a lot! Hope you begin to feel a little better soon!
-
I was due to start chemo on the 19th however the surgeon wants to do a re-excision because my margins were positive. I had a bmx on November 23 with no reconstruction and I am pulled pretty tight at the moment but she is going to talk to the pathologist and see if she can get a pin point location of where to remove more skin. This will delay my chemo for another 3 weeks so wont start chemo till January 9th. Originally I thought they got clear margins but that wasn't the case.
-
Mariett-I’m so sorry to hear that you have to go through another procedure, but of course they want to be super careful to physically remove everything they can before starting chemo. I saw another thread where women were talking about eating all their favorite foods before chemo...maybe now is the time to do that?
Hugs. I know a delay is not what you want.
-
Thanks Wigging2000 I am happy to have them do more surgery if it means getting out any more cancer that was left behind. I just don't like the waiting. By the time I start chemo in January it will be 7 weeks since my original surgery. I know they like to start chemo within 60 days of surgery so I am still within those time limits.
