MRI Guided Biopsy with Implants

Howdy! Has anyone had a MRI guided biopsy with implants? Unfortunately the breast MRI found a 4x1.5x1.5 cm non-mass enhancement in a segmental distribution with clumped internal enhancement in the left breast upper outer quadrant at 2 o'clock 8 cm from nipple abutting the implant and a round mass with irregular margins measuring .8 cm in left breast outer hemisphere at 2 to 3 o'clock located 8 cm from nipple also abutting the implant (birad 4). The ultrasound guided biopsy didn't work because the radiologist said they did not see what the MRI was seeing. The surgical oncologist suggested to go ahead with MRI guided biopsy even though it will likely rupture the implant because he is suggesting they be removed anyway with the family history and density of my breasts. I'm scheduled from the biopsies Dec 4th and just thought I would ask about the procedure and to get everyone's thoughts on the above information.

With two different radiologist refusing to perform a MRI guided biopsy due to the possibility of rupturing the implant thus causing distorted images or relocation of the markers. They finally settled on a MRI guided wire localization prior to the surgical excision. The MRI guided wire localization was a breeze and after a day of recovering from the surgical excision of the areas of concern I'm started to feel normal again. I'm left with about a 5 inch incision with internal stitches and exterior glue. Now its just waiting for the pathology and genetic results to return in 1-2 weeks. The radiologist that performed the wire localization did say that she thought I had a good chance of it being benign so that made my day.

    Hi beepositive.

I have my fingers crossed good news for you. I also have implants, and waiting to book a stereotactic core biopsy. I only found out the concern on Friday and I have to admit, I’m a bit of a mess. mine is a calicafation that is a cluster of 6 that are 2.5mm total. Slightly pleomorhic and bigger from my first mammogram 6 months ago. I just turned 40 and started my routine mammogramsthis year.

    Howdy Tchuts

I will be praying for B9 results for you. Waiting is the hardest. I was told to expect pathology results back in 1-2 weeks and genetic results back in 2-3 weeks. The radiologist who performed my MRI guided wire localization did say afterwards that I had a good chance of it being B9...that really made my day. When I came out of surgery I told the surgical oncologist what the radiologist said and he just said we could only hope but if it did turn out to be something then he would address it. He kinda stole my thunder. Lol I have a very good friend with BC and Pleomorphic Liposarcome and she always tells me not to overthink things. She says your mind is the darkest scariest place....never go in alone or after dark! Shes so funny but such a strong positive light for others! Hugs

    Hi BEEPOSITIVE ,

Seems you and I are in similar situation. My ultrasound guided biopsy with implants is Friday morning. But after reading your story you've shed some light that there could be other complications.

Like my biopsy not working or my implants having to come out.

More of my story is in an post that I posted a few minutes ago called:

“Breast Cancer , Heart Failure or both or what? “

Please everyone feel free to comment on that if you have something you’d like to add.,

So I’m worried sick right now. I will update everyone as soon as I know more. I’ll be praying for everyone! Hope everything goes well!

    Beepositve,

Your friends saying brought a smile to my face. It is so extremely true. I really do feel that not knowing is the hardest. Our minds are over thinking. As much as everyone says not to, google is an obsession. I’m my mind I’m already having a double mastectomy and have pick out a plastic surgeon already. Ugh. I feel a bit crazy. I’m a zombie at work and I only seem to put on a smile for client and my kids. Man can I fake it for those kids. They are the only thing that truly distracts me right now. So yes our mind is a dark place.

    Howdy everyone,

I received the dreaded call yesterday. They found invasive breast cancer in my left breast. They are still performing hormone receptor testing and we are still waiting on genetic results. They did say that it was only 6mm so they thought it was caught early. I would love to hear from everyone on what the next steps are normally.

Sorry they found cancer. They should schedule appointments with a surgeon and medical oncologist soon to discuss a plan. Once you have a plan, you’ll feel more control over things. You can do this

Hi, I have a biopsy next week, stereotatic and I have implants over the muscle. I'm a little nervous about this, anyone have any input on this?

    Howdy brooke17927

I've never had a stereotatic biopsy because my areas of concern were only visible on MRI. My areas also touched the implant so the only option for me was MRI guided wire localization. Is your area(s) of concern touching the implant or further from the implant? I would think it would be just fine as long as its not close to the implant. I'll be praying for B9 results for you. Keep your chin up. I wish I could be more help.

yes I think mine is further from the implant, I’m told that they’ll separate my implant like they did in the mammogram, mine are about 11 and 12 o’clock is what they said, out more towards my armpit and thank upu
