Low dose tamoxifen -a feasible option for DCIS, LCIS, & ADH

"SAN ANTONIO – A low-dose treatment of tamoxifen – 5 mg daily rather than the conventional 20 mg daily – appears to offer women protection against recurrence of early stage breast cancer and also reduces adverse events that often accompany tamoxifen cancer prevention therapy, researchers reported here."

Very interesting. Guess I’ll stop feeling guilty for only doing fouryears. (Although I realize my case is not the same since I had IDC.)

That is interesting. I always wondered about the one dose for all.

Wow too late for me to take advantage of a lower dosage but I’m still blessed. Manageable side effects and 7 years out last August.

Read our take on this study:

Low-Dose Tamoxifen May Be an Option to Reduce Risk of Recurrence, Invasive Disease After Non-Invasive Breast Cancer
    December 18, 2018

A low dose of tamoxifen after surgery reduced the risk of recurrence, as well as the risk of new invasive disease, in women diagnosed with hormone-receptor-positive breast intraepithelial neoplasia. Read more...

"Most DCIS, ADH, and LCIS are hormone-receptor-positive. So most people diagnosed with DCIS, ADH, and LCIS take hormonal therapy to reduce the risk of developing invasive disease, as well as the risk of the non-invasive disease recurring"

This is NOT true of ADH & LCIS. Doctors are frustrated by the low number of women agreeing to take prophylactic medication offered since it has shown to be so effective. MOST women with ADH & LCIS choose NOT to take tamoxifen or an AI.

I am so thrilled to see this study published. Wish it applied to IDC because I do feel the 20mg per day dose of tamoxifen is too heavy at least for me. But I will take it as long as I can.

This has always been my plan since quitting Tamoxifen due to too many SE's. I realize that endocrine therapy is important, but I just couldn't suffer any more problems while trying to figure out the rest of the problems. Know what I mean?

I've read some other limited research with some good results on really low doses - sometimes only 5-10 mg per week! I'm hoping to try again, building up slowly and backing down again if too much. We all are so different that it seems that different dosages would be a distinct possibility.
