I was just diagnosed November 6th with Mets to my spine and sternum. I started Herceptin, Perjeta and Taxotere on Nov29th. Yesterday I just had a round of Taxotere by itself. What has been others experience with this regimen? I have heard about hair loss from Taxotere and the diarrhea with Perjeta. Still wrapping my head around my diagnosis. I just celebrated 5 years in September.

Sorry you are dealing with this. I had Taxotere in 2013. I had awful taste, and had an awful "yuk" feeling in my mouth about days 3-5. My counts dropped pretty badly on day 14. Other than that, I did great. I exercised every day, and never had any nausea. Hoping you tolerate it well and that it gets you to NED.

Yea I am trying to keep up my workouts. I went to Crossfit this morning and felt pretty good. My tastebuds are completely off. Water tastes bad and I drink a ton of water. I had this also with my original regimen of chemo. I sub in flavored sparkling water.

Iv’e had no GI issues with Perjeta, just some skin reactions from flushing to bumps (like hives and fire ant bites). Taste was bad for me too but overall I found chemo pretty tolerable. Now on H&P only, hair is growing (slowly) and I’m able to engage in normal activities like going to the gym, concerts, etc. CrossFit is great but I think even daily walks will minimize fatigue, it worked for me.

Try having only bottled water and buy your ice. It did not have any taste to it for me. I’m never without water so I was miserable until I figured out to buy it rather than tap or ice from my ice maker. The diluted baking soda/salt gargles really helped whenever my mouth and throat were sore.

Best of luck to you. Has anyone mentioned chewing ice while the Taxotere infuses? I didn’t know to ice feet and hands as many do. Wish I had. It really helps to ward off neuropathy

I did the salt and water gargles every day to prevent mouth sores and had ice on my hand and feet. I can't remember if I had the ice chips with my first part of chemo FEC or Taxorete but it wouldn't hurt.

Hope you can tolerate it. Sorry to hear about your mets!!!

They have special booties and mittens that are frozen that I wear during Taxotere. Ugh it is miserable.

Try sucking on ice during the Taxol infusion. I did that, and found the taste change wasn't as bad - it definitely helped.

    (((hugs))))
