Hi friends. I recently had a mammogram and was called back for another screening and an ultrasound. After that appointment, I'm now scheduled for a biopsy on Tuesday, 12/11. This is so nerve-wracking and I just wanted to connect with others who get it! Here is the verbiage from my report. Any input is so welcomed - thank you! I've seen such great expertise and translations on these boards.

RIGHT BREAST FULL-FIELD DIGITAL DIAGNOSTIC MAMMOGRAM WITH DIGITAL BREAST TOMOSYNTHESIS

EXAM DATE AND TIME: 12/5/2018 2:13 PM

COMPARISON: Comparisons dating back to September 17, 2014

INDICATION: Callback for focal asymmetry in the lower inner quadrant of the right breast middle depth.

FINDINGS:

Breast Density: There are scattered areas of fibroglandular density (Category B).

The focal asymmetry in the lower inner quadrant of the left breast middle depth partially effaces on additional views, however was not definitely present on prior tomosynthesis exams. Digital breast tomosynthesis was performed. The images have been analyzed by CAD.

EXAM: RIGHT BREAST ULTRASOUND

Area scanned: Right breast 5:30 N4 and right axila

FINDINGS: There is a hypoechoic oval mass with partially indistinct and partially circumscribed margins in the right breast at 5:30 N4 measuring 1.1 x 1.1 x 0.4 cm. The areas of indistinct margins appear somewhat angular. This mass corresponds to the focal asymmetry seem on prior mammogram. There are morphologically benign-appearing right axillary lymph nodes.

IMPRESSION:

1. Indeterminate mass in the right breast at 5:30 N4. Recommend ultrasound-guided biopsy.

ASSESSMENT:

ACR BI-RADS Category 4 - Suspicious.

RECOMMENDATION:

1. Biopsy Right

    My ultrasound report sounded very similar other than the angular margins. I just had my biopsy yesterday and am awaiting results. Appointment with breast specialist on the 13th to get the results per my OBGYN who is a BC survivor since 2009. I'm 44 and have dense breasts. Somehow I have managed to NOT Google things and I think that has helped to keep me centered. I've been mostly lurking on here and have learned a lot. This seems to be a great place to get info and support. I've been surprised at the number of long term survivors. I really was very unaware of that and that has been helpful for me in staying positive. Djmammo is a wealth of knowledge. The biopsy went fine for me, FYI. I really liked the radiologist. There was quite a bit of pressure but no pain and only minimal bruising and no soreness afterwards. If you are well endowed, I suggest wearing a bra for 24 or so hours after the biopsy - even overnight. I think that helped minimize my soreness. For me they took 3 core biopsy samples - skipping the fine needle part altogether. Depending on the radiologist, he/she might give you some feedback right during the process. Best wishes.

    JenCanDoThis - your response is exactly why I felt comfortable posting something. I'm not a "message board" kind of person - I'm more of a lurker :) Thank you for making things more comfortable.

    And THANK YOU for your quick response. I'm thinking of you as you wait for your results. The 13th is my sister's and hubby's birthday - so I think that's a good luck day and I hope it translates to you.

    I've seen Djmammo share is expertise to others...wow. This is awesome and reassuring to the members, I'm sure.

    And, thank you for the advice on the biopsy. Your direction is much appreciated! Keep in touch and let me know how it goes. We're close in age...I'm 46 and trying to hard to stay positive! Thinking of you!

    Thank you and you're welcome. I will check back in with you as well. One thing I've definitely learned is it's very treatable if we are positive and there are lots of funky sounding words that might be "bad" but I think some of the time (a lot of the time), even some of the "bad" words can be related to benign conditions. I'm kind of in the "it is what it is" phase. I am glad that I will get results from a face to face with a specialist. Even if my results are benign, I plan to be a bit more aggressive in screening from now on and I'm already learning about diet changes from the wonderful people on here! I plan to encourage all of my friends to get yearly mammograms no matter what. The 3D imaging seems to be maybe resulting in some unnecessary biopsies but I'd rather be on the safe side.     Funny you say that, JenCanDoThis...I've felt the same way. My original screening was through a mobile mammogram at work (we offer this benefit to our associates) and I will always shout from the rooftop that the team only needs to take a few steps outside, hop in the bus, and get this very important screening done. It's easy-peasy! I'll also share my experience when this is through as a testimony to screenings. And, like you, I've been thinking of other healthy behaviors I should implement to further set my health up for success. Thanks again for your support!

    I totally understand your feelings - you are not alone! I had an abnormal mammogram, dense breast tissue, etc. Was called back for another look, then a biopsy, then another biopsy, then an MRI, before finally seeing the surgeon. Each test was a little more involved, but the technicians were all very experienced and gentle. One even spent 20 minutes after a biopsy gently putting pressure on the breast to remove as much of the bleeding as possible so I wouldn't get a bruise -- and it worked. Interestingly, I didn't get particularly anxious, but I did feel so fortunate when I thought of all the women who don't have access to these diagnostics -- I found that realy bothered me. Maybe because I hadn't had any health issues until then (I'm 62), I didn't really expect any problems. But ultimately I did have early stage breast cancer and the pathology on my lumpectomy showed it had become invasive, leading to the mastectomy. Try to take it one step at a time and try not to look to far forward at the "what ifs" -- you can drive yourself crazy. Surround yourself with a good medical team and supportive family and friends, and whatever they find, you'll be able to make informed decisions that are best for you. And you'll get great support and understanding from everyone in this community.
