Invasive Lobular carcinoma after taking HRT
I took HRT for 5 years and stopped when I heard it contributed to breast cancer. Fifteen years later I am diagnosed with Invasive lobular carcinoma. There is little research showing a link of hormone replacement therapy and lobular cancers. Longer term usage of HRT is associated with an increase in breast cancer. Has anyone else taken HRT, and for how long, and has ILC.
Thanks

I was on HRT for 10yrs. I was diagnosed a year ago with ILC. I've been wondering if the HRT was the reason I got BC.

Yes for several years. Years later after discontinuing hrt I was dx with both ilc and idc er 95% but pr negative and her2 negative.

Hi all...I used HRT for 6 years before being diagnosed with hormone positive ILC and IDC. I'm sure it didn't help. However my BS at a major NYC university hospital told me most of his patients did NOT take HRT when asked if it was the cause. Fortunately I was still stage one even on the HRT. IMO there is going to be a day when hormones, not anti hormones will be prescribed for these types of cancer. Looking forward to that day!

The Cancer Clinic told me that possibly 10 years on HRT could affect getting breast cancer. They didn't think my 5 years on HRT would cause it. I first got LCIS then ILC and discovered early. I can't help but think that HRT contributed something.

I avoided HRT for 5 miserable years until the new analysis on the nurses study showed it didn't necessarily increase risk of BC. Then, was on it (low dose minivelle (estradiol) for5 years. ILC diagnosed 6/2018. Apparently, they started realizing in 2016/2017 that although overall BC risk wasn't increased with HRT, ILC was.

There is a link to HRT and ER+ PR- cancer. I started HRT and literally 8 months later my breast blew up like a balloon. ILC.

read through and there is a paragraph about combined HRT and ILC.

HeyLady
Yes I took Premarin for 43 years. I had a hysterectomy at 29 and my doctor at the time said you must go on hormones or you will have the bones of an 80 year old when you are 40. I never had a problem and always felt great once I started. To be honest I would love to take them again and stop the letrozole. Sometimes I think the quality of my life was so much better when I took the hormones. I miss that little brown pill

dakrock...I know exactly how you feel! I was on HRT when I was diagnosed with ILC and IDC. My BS told me that just stopping the HRT was treatment alone. I have refused anti hormone therapy for many reasons. However I still have menopausal symptoms due to lack of estrogen from stopping the HRT. I know what you mean about QOL. Breast cancer is a very complicated disease with many individual circumstances. Good luck to all.

dakrock I miss estrogen too! I took HRT for 7+ years prior to cancer diagnosis. I do not believe it caused my cancer; i do believe it probably accelerated when I would get cancer. I was diagnosed at 55 and took HRT from about age 47. With out the hrt I don’t think I would have slept for 8 years. Without HRT I think I still would have gotten cancer but not until 75 or so. At 55 i was in better condition to handle cancer than I expect I would have been at 75. I have no regrets for HRT
