I got in the habit of taking a little Vit D everyday years ago because most of my life was spent in windowless offices and half the year, it was dark by the time I got home. Now in the spring and summer I spend most of my time outside doing yard work so I have bit of the natural stuff stored away.

What a great article. I wish that science and medical journalism were better resourced so that places weren't just copying press releases. And I wish that negative-results were celebrated as much as positive ones, so 'reputable' places wouldn't feel like they need to put so much spin.
How is it that there seems to be such an impact for heart attacks, but overall no impact for the broader category of 'cardiac events'? What does that mean? That seems like it would be a really important thing for the press release and the journalism to explore and explain.
I started taking high dose vitamin d a couple of years ago when there were all those articles about how we're all deficient. My numbers on blood tests are much higher now but I don't actually feel any different. Now I just take one big does every couple of days, especially in winter. I figure I'll use up this bottle at least...

Good article. Thanks for posting. (FWIW, I recently started an AI and my MO recommended I take Vitamin D and Calcium supplements. The studies I read said that while Calcium supplements do increase bone density, they don't impact the risk of bone fractures. I decided to take a Vitamin D supplement and have increased the calcium in my diet.)

I started taking 3000 iu of vitamin D 3 years ago while in treatment for colon cancer. I was hoping that it helps prevent a recurrence...

My oncologist said my vitamin D level was low, and to add 1000 units daily to the same amount I was getting in my daily multivitamin. Seems to be normal since then.
