edited December 2018 in Benign Breast Conditions

hey everyone! I'm new here. So basically, i'm 21 years old and i found a lump in my left breast like 8 months ago. It's kind of a "funny" story how i found it, i really thought i couldn't have breast cancer at a young age, it was until my aunt got diagnosed with bc (stage 0, all good) that just for curiosity i started checking myself, and to my total surprise i had a small lump. Obviously i instantly thought it was cancer since i didn't know you could have bening breast tumors and i'm a little bit hypochondriac lol.

My lump is like 2 cm, movable, doesn't hurt at all, smooth, sometimes hard and sometimes not so much(?) and it hasn't changed in size since i discovered it. I went to my gyn like 4 weeks ago because i got scared to go sooner, but my mom and i realized that we needed to know what's up. My gyn told me that it felt like a fibroadenoma, he then made me and ultrasound and said it also looked like one, but of course he can't confirm. He said i need to go to a radiologist to get it checked to see if i need to get it out but i need to wait till my period is over i don't know why. i'm really stressed out, my family and bf tell me it's probably nothing but they don't know the stress of having something you don't know what it is!! Also i'm not very happy about the posibility of a surgery

I'm trying to stay calm but of course google doesn't help at all (i know it's my fault though lol) any recommendations or stories of fibroadenomas are very welcome! I feel like i need someone who understands my situation lol

I had one removed when I was eighteen. It was very easy. Fibros wax and wane during the monthly cycle. My right breast has always been smaller, and it delivered less milk to my babies.

I have a fibroadenoma in my right breast. It was diagnosed by biopsy, and they placed a little marker in it so that if the lump showed up on future mammograms, they would know that it had already been checked and was benign. I asked, what if it turns into cancer and nobody is worried about it? And they said, that does not happen. Not one doctor has ever suggested that I should get it removed. I don't think about it at all, really.

I found my FA 4 yrs ago. It was biopsied (which is not a bad procedure AT ALL, if they biopsy yours). I just had it surgically removed on the 20th because it started to cause discomfort. The surgery/recovery has been better then expected.

FAs are benign. Most don't ever cause issues. They sometimes go away on their own. They most likely will have you do imaging every 6 months or year. They do that to monitor if it is growing. I would suggest you do a biopsy to confirm. Don't stress too much. Good luck!

I have multiple fibroadenomas. I had one removed in November (it turned out to be something else entirely). They generally cause no problem. Imaging and biopsy (for definitive diagnosis, if needed) are really the best ways to manage it. Best of luck!

Thank you all for your answers! i've been trying to stay busy since my period hasn't even started, i don't know why i have to wait but oh well. I'm really hoping it's bening, i constantly check it (even if my gyn told me no to touch it) just to reassure myself that it feels bening but i guess no one can really know until you have a biopsy. Thank you all again:)

I'm waiting for an ultrasound. Dr said that my lump was probably a fibroadenoma because it was painful. But im still worried. Let me know how it goes and what they find. Hope all is B9!!
