Has anyone had liver mets resected?

An oncology surgeon feels that my two liver mets can be surgically resected. Has anyone gone through surgical liver mets resection? Was it done laparascopically? How hard was the recovery? Did you feel the risk was worth it?

I have two mets that have shrunk quite well with chemo and appear to be dead on CT scan. The complication is that the mets are located in two different lobes.

I would like to hear others’ experience with this kind of surgery. My Mayo oncologist thinks there is no benefit to doing surgery for stage IV. But my local oncologist and the surgeon do. So it is hard to decide whether to have the surgery.

    I had a liver resection over 5 years ago for a single liver met. The risk was worth it. I had "limited metastatic disease." I am still on perjeta and herceptin, but I have remained NED. Recovery was hard, that is a tough surgery. They do not recommend laprascopic. With open surgery they can also ultrasound the liver itself while in there. I had my surgery at MDA.     I would ask if ablation is an option. I was given the option of resection or ablation and I chose ablation. It is an easy Outpatient procedure with a very short recovery.i had it done in 2011 and I have been Ned since then

    honeybee. Michel had it done two years ago, I think. It has worked well for her. She posts mostly on the My cancer, my husband, etc thread.

    I had a successful radioembolization with y90. I am 1 1/2 years out. I had a lot of lesions in both lobes. Now they show no activity. You can watch my recent interview on the Will you share your Stage IV story with us thread. It explains the whole process of the procedure.

    I had single met resected last november and my liver is clean since the resection, I just has mri. I did not even received chemo afterwards stayed on exemestan and I am currently Ned. I has it done laparoscopically with simultaneous ovariectomy and gall bladder removal. I was walking next day after operation and got stiches out after week, so recovery was very good

    Thank you all so much for your responses! They give me so much hope because you all sound like you have done well with it.

    My Mayo oncologist doesnt even want to talk about surgery unless my cancer is stable forr a year. It seems so contrary to normal protocol of doing surgery as soon as reasonably possible. And it is contrary to what my local onc says

    Another thing to look at: hyperthermia. There are ways of using heat-- heated blood or heating probes-- to kill mets too. Clevelan Clinic and U Maryland have programs.
